A splash in the water(Burningwing)

[Ferny]

A blue cat sat on the edge of the river, tail grazing hte surface of the water. Her light yellow eyes gazing down at the small fish glinting in the moonlight. Her name was Splashheart, she belonged to Riverclan, but she had Thudnerclan blood. No one knew she was from teh clan of the forest, only her family. Although her slight depression was fading she still couldn't belive that her sister and brother were alive and well in Thunderclan. She also couldn't beilive she had a half brother and a half sister. Shaking her head she closed her eyes and sat on the bank silently.

Cougarpaw had been hunting silently through the wooded part around the river glen, actually doing well at catching a few water voles, when he caught scent of a cat. Of course he knew it was Riverclan, but wouldn't the cat be hunting or on a patrol? The scent seemed to be in one spot, unwavering to move along. He flicked one ginger tabby ear back in confusion and narrowed his amber eyes curiously. Picking up two pieces of his fresh-kill, he padded over to Splashheart, settling down beside the pretty stream coloured she-cat. He blinked a greeting to her and dipped his cracked pink padded paws into the cool river, the smooth current washing the sticky blood away and and slicking his ginger fur. Smiling friendly, he purred" Hey, Splashheart! What are you doing laying here?"

Hey bright yellow eyes looked up from the moonlit fish, ears flicking backward. Lifting her head up she looked over her deep gray shoulder, tail swishing to her other side. A small ginger apprentice made his way towards her, she blinked. "Cougerpaw" she said giving a small kurt nodd. Blinking again she shrugged "I needed to get away from things". Why is this apprentice out at night? hunting when the rocks are still warm? Her soft fur quivered in the smal breeze that swept down the river's way.

Cougarpaw nodded, his head moving between his two front paws. What was Splashheart getting away from? The camp? The warrior's den? His amber eyes shimmered at the moonlights reflection on the water. Fish with gold and silver scales swam gracefully in front of them, starlight glinting off their gem like scales and the surface of the river drifted sluggishly, as if it wanted to watch the fish all night and not move along to the lake. With a deep sigh, he slipped his paws out of the fresh, cool water. With a quick shake, he looked back at the blue coated warrior she-cat. He had never really felt comfortable around she-cats, and his short fur rippled nervously. He wanted to give her a piece of fresh kill, maybe then she would cheer up, but he didn't know how. Slowly he gripped a piece and nudged it to her paw. " Want some?" he mumbled embarrassed, his head lowered.

The she-cat stared at the water. Sighing she barely heard him shake hte water from his paws, the only real thing she noticed was the slight ripple in the water. Yellow eyes blinking as a large silver fish wiggled past she perked her ears as she heard a slight sliding noise. Looking she saw Cougerpaw push a peice of prey towards her, then he spoke. Oh dear, I have alreighty ate........but I don't want to saden him...I'm full. Nodding to him she murmured, no thank you, I've alreidy ate. Staring back at the water she sighed, apprenticehood. "Are you having fun as an apprentice? she asked casually, although she didn't remember her apprenticehood days, and she haden't even been a mentor yet.

A shadow crossed Cougarpaw's eyes and his ears flicked backward. He didn't want to tell this warrior that he wasn't yet a real apprentice but...." No, not really..." he meowed shadowedly." I haven't actually been made a apprentice yet, but I won't go with the title of Cougarkit any longer. Im 12 moons old!" His voice whistled slightly at the end as it was drowned out by the gurgling of the river as a leafy stick caught on the stepping stones and water washed over the red-purple bush and stripped off chunks to fleshy white wood. "Sorry to bother you, but do you know anything about surviving without friends?" His question gurgled out of his mouth like one of the sleek, silver fish in the river before he could stop it.

Splashheart's ears flicked backward, twelve moons and not an apprentice? I suppose it is only right when Stormstar just passed. She nodded at his second question and gazed at the water. "How do you think I have survived till now?" her sad eyes glazed over as she thought of Blackthorn, they talked a lot when she was younger but now, she spoke with no one.

Cougarpaw's eyes flickered in the fading image of afternoon. Dark stretched far across the sky and flashes of stars lit up the silver river and carving out long silver carp splashing through the air, sparkles of droplet water spraying up like rain from the billowing current. The young "warrior" aged tom lowered his head to look deep into the shivering waves that happened in and out at his sunset coloured paws. For the first time in a while, he felt a calm peace settle upon his ragged and tired body, for once talking to a cat without stress and yelling. The only thing that he really had left to his heart was the warrior code that Starclan had wrote. "I don't know." He whispered hoarsely, his tail flicking like a adders head. He wanted to talk to her but he just didn't know what to say.

Her 'blue' tail tip flicked a bead of water as it landed lightly on it. Her light yellow eyes gazing into the apprentice's as they lay there. "I really don't have any friends, I don't even think my own family like me". Her voice was smooth and almost cold Fur along her spine raising, before falling again as the water slapped against the rock, sending a spray of water onto her nose and into her eyes. Shivering she looked back to the water, the silvery fish gliding carelessly through the clear-like liquid. Sighing she pushed her paw into the water, swiping close to the nearest fish, sending them all scattering. Pulling her paw out she gazed at the deep gray fur plastered to her paw. "They just all left and stuck me in Riverclan". Just like that she gave away her secret that kept her in the clan, known as the kitten that wandered into camp with her loner father, no clan blood at all, but that was the mere whitelie, she was clan born.

Cougarpaw gazed deeply into the water, his eyes flickering as the shimmering water reflected in his dark amber eyes. As a spray of mist flattened his orange striped pelt, he let out a tense laugh, the sleek, silver fish they had both been watching flicked its tail and sped under a algae covered rock. He tucked his paws under his chest, his cracked and bleeding paws sticking to his creamy-white chest fur, staining it slightly with a deep red tinge that spread through the individual hairs. He almost felt paralyzed. Panicking, he blurted out, " I know what it feels like." With him have said that, he knew he had to tell the rest of his story, it wouldn't be right if he didn't. Letting out a deep sigh, he began to summarize his story slowly. "I never knew my parents long. Just long enough to know that they had never wanted me....I was a accident." He spat out the last word, dragging over it as if he wanted to slice it with his claws. " I suppose that's why no one likes me....they don't understand how it feels..." His eyes glazed with sorrow and he dropped his head onto his front paws, which he had untucked. He stared restlessly at the rippling water, the dared to glance over at Splashheart, afraid he would upset her with his own feelings.

Closing her eyes as she listened to the young tom speak she sighed. Family don't exist anymore she thought sadly. Opening her eyes again she gazed at he water, he still spoke spatting out one word. Brining her tail around to her left side she dropped her paws into the water, lightly touching the small stone that reflected moonlight back at her. It was smooth, some sort of indentation covered the top, it was a silvery color and glinted whenever angled into the light. Looking up at Cougarpaw she nodded "It's ok, I know, my sister doesn't like me and my father left, my brother and sister are in Thunderclan". Blinking sadly she looked back to he smooth 'stone' touching it it slid slightly and shined the light once more, blinking she pondered on what this smooth thing could be, little did a cat know that it was a quarter.

Cougarpaw leaned over closer to Splashheart to get a look at the shiny silver pebble that was so smooth and thin, yet shapes marked out on it as if carved by a claw. He casually smoothed his ruffled fur, which was sparkling with small beadlets of clear water, misting up from the rock jutting out in the river, and continuous showers of ice cold liquid spraying his sleek creamy orange tabby pelt. His snowy liquid blue eyes blinked repeatedly, over and over. "Umhmm." He murmured sorrowfully, eyes clouded.
