Swimming (sorta)

[Northland]

Northpaw stretched in the sun, getting ready to take a quick swim in the shallows. The water back home had always been frozen, so she was determined to enjoy running water.... Soon. OK, one, twoooo, two and a half..... Aw, come on! Thought Northpaw, I can do this! I can swim! Just jump in! Ok, ready....

[Lightbreeze & Co. (Night)]

"Is someone trying to swim?" called out a voice.

A black tom, with a white mark on his chest, made his way through the reeds. He smiled at the apprentice and sat down beside her. He couldn't help but chuckle; he remembered learning how to swim, it was difficult for him. But now that the ice was thawing, he could enjoy the comfort it brought him.

Then he thought of Autumn. She had been here such a short time ago, when the river was frozen solid. She had fallen in, though, and he had helped pulled her out. The most beautiful she-cat he had ever seen with scars on her.

He turned his attention back to Northpaw. "Like Heavystorm said, is someone trying to swim?" he repeated.

[Northland]

The voice startled Northpaw, (she had been cocentrating so hard on getting herself to go into the water that she hadn't noticed the cat's approach.) She jumped in surprise and landed in the shallows by the bank. When she came back up her silver fur was streaked with mud and she had a blob of pond sludge on her head. "Thanks for that, thought I would never make it in here..." Hickuped Northpaw through a mouthful of water.

[Lightbreeze & Co. (Night)]

The tom laughed, his head tilting up towrads the sky. "LIttle cat is funny," he meowed. "Little cat knows not how to swim? Or is little cat scared of water?" He smiled good-naturedlly at Northpaw, hoping she saw that he was joking.

[Northland]

"I wouldn't say scared..." said Northpaw as she belched up the last of the water she had swallowed. "What's your name? I'm Northpaw." said Northpaw as she sat diligently in the shallows, determined not to clamber out like a sodden squirrel, (wich is what I should do if I have any common sense, thought the apprentice reluctantly.)

[Lightbreeze & Co. (Night)]

"This cat be called Heavystorm," said the black cat. "It is a pleasure to meet Northpaw." He dabble dhis paw in the water, making it ripple. "Swimming is easy," mewed Heavystorm. "Northpaw watch, alright?" He crouched and slipped calmly into the water, shivering a little at the cold. He turned around and paddled to stay in place. "Northpaw sees it is easy?"

[Northland]

Easy my paw! Thought Northpaw as she turned into slightly deeper water and began kicking madly to stay in place. "How do fishes stand this stuff?" She called over to Heavystorm. The tom was a bit odd in her opinion, always adressing everyone, even himself, by name. Oh well, what was wrong with that?

[Nightfur and Co.]

"Do not ask Heavystorm, he is not fish!" laughed the warrior. He took a deep breath and dove under water, letting the current take him downstream a little. He resurfaced soon, though, and paddled over to the shore. His black fur clung to his body, and when he shook it, it puffed up, making him look like a giant furball.

A giggle emanated from the reeds, making Heavystorm smile. "Heavystorm hears Tearkit!" he yowled. Another giggle, soon followed by a small body. The siamese kitten ran up to Heavystorm and laughed.

"You're a ball of fluff!" she mewed.

[Northland]

Northpaw paddled towards the bank thinking, If he's getting out (and he likes the water) Then I've been in here long enough! She wasn't making very fast progress though. Seeing the little kit she called over, "Hi! So your name's Tearkit?" Northpaw hicuped as she spat out some water she had swallowed and then continued,slightly out of breat, "I'm Northpaw."

[Lightbreeze & Co. (Night)]

Tearkit giggled again. "Yep! have you been swimming?"

Heavystorm nodded. The little kit was growing up; he hoped he got to mentor someone like her. "Yes. Does Tearkit want to with Northpaw and Heavystorm?"

Tearkit shook her head. "No. I'm being made an apprentice soon, I can wait." The water tempted her. She wanted to swim, but she didn't want to drown. She heard of kits her age dieing in the water--she could wait.

[Northland]

Smart kit, thought Northpaw as she was making painfullly slow progress towards the bank, this swimming thing is overrated. Finally! Thought Northpaw as she clambered (a little less than clumsily) out of the water. She shook dry as she said, "Pleased to meet you Tearkit, and don't worry, swimming's not that great.... Well guess it depends on if you like it or not... I'm contradicting myself aren't I?"

[Lightbreeze & Co. (Night)]

Heavystorm chuckled. Northpaw was a bright young cat, with quite a different personality. "Yes, Northpaw is," he meowed. "Swimming is alright, once a cat gets used to the water. Is Northpaw not used to water?"

Tearkit butted him, hardly making him move. "Stop asking personal qusetions, Heavystorm!" she mewed at him. "Maybe Northpaw doesn't want to answer them, ever think of that?"

[Northland]

OOC: Thats cheating! No fair! *throws hissyfit*

"I'm just not very fond of water, is all." said Northpaw, she shivered at the frightening memory that creapt its way up to the front of her mind, but hid the shiver in a good hard shake of her fur. Droplets of water flew everywhere, she had ment to get Heavystorm wet. "Sorry if that hit anyone." said Northpaw cheerily

[Nightfur and Co.]

BIC:

Heavystorm never even flinched as the water hit him, though one droplet hit Tearkit square on the nose. She squeaked and shook her head violently, shaking her whole body as well. "That's cold!" she mewed.

[Northland]

"Sorry," said Northpaw placidly, blinking the last few drops from her eyes. Her fur puffed out like a cottonball about three seconds later, followed by a sneeze. "But honestly, I don't have a clue what some cats see in swimming...." She mumbled under her breath.
