Hunting on the river

[Silentclaw]

Silentclaw led the way to the border between Thunderclan and Riverclan, where the river had frozen. He looked around, checking the ground for prints. His mouth was partially open so he could take in the scents around him, and his ears swerved back and forth, trying to pick up the slightest sound. He froze as he caught the scent of a winter rabbit up ahead. It had probably come out of its lair to get some water. He strained his eyes, trying to catch a glimpse of it and he caught sight of beady black eyes staring at him. He sparred a glance at Thistle to see if she had detected it yet.

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle's nose twitched in the cold air and she looked around. The river was frozen solid, but she could see the raging water beneath it, ready to break through in the form of spring floods. Being this close to the border made her uneasy; she knew Silentclaw was testing her, ever since her outburst at camp he had been. But she didn't regret a word she had said; Silentclaw was a fool of a leader, and Savvanahheart would have been much better prepared.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw a speck of movement; a rabbit, hopping along the bank. She crouched down low, tail lashing. She flicked her ear at Silentclaw to tell him that this rabbit was hers, and darted out. Tooth met scruff, but the rabbit was a fighter; its back legs flung out to batter Thistle as she tried to get a good grip on it. Soon it went limp, and she buried it under a holly bush.[/glow]

Gingerkit ran towards the border thinking that hazelkit wouldn't follow, but to her suprise she saw two cats loitering and trying to catch a winter rabbit, gingerkit rose her hackles and started to growl.

Hazelkit ran into her sister, and saw the intruders, she started to growl too, her little heart beating quickly, "What are you two doing in riverclan" she growled.

[Silentclaw]

(Go ahead)

"Thistle, I asked you here for a reason." Silentclaw began, his voice low. He had to force himself to go on, though he did his best not to show his mental battle. "I wanted to ask you to..." He was interrupted by the appearnce of the two kits. He scowled at them. "We're on Thunderclan's side." This could very well be, since the snow had covered most of the river, making it hard to tell the boundries apart. "What are two kits like you doing out here anyways?"

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle listened intently to Silentclaw, before the kits showed up. LIttle troublemakers, she thought. Come out for a little fun, have they? "Silentclaw, they're just kits," she mewed, "Out for a little jaunt without Mommy knowing." She sneered, trying to make the kits, though obviously braver than most, just a little scared. Taking them back to camp would be the right thing, but then she remembered that she was rogue. They would have no chance with RiverClan. They would be accused of stealing the kits, rather than praised for saving them. The snow crunched as she kneaded it, trying to think of a solution.

"Why don't you just run back to Momma, runts?" she meowed, a faint hiss on the edge of her voice. "Weather like this is no place for kits your age. And, if you haven't noticed, we're on ThunderClan's side," she added, going on a hunch at where she rememered the scent marks being. She saw the outline of Sunningrocks in the distance, paralel to the two rogue's bodies. Those kits had no right to ask them what their business was, anyways, let alone be out of camp! If they don't go away soon, we can ignore them. But risk them remembering what Silentclaw has to say. I hope he doesn't ask me to...no, he wouldn't![/glow]

Gingerkit snicker, "You ain't my momma, you old squirrel...and besides my momma's friend is with us" she growled she didn't like this thistle, she was mean, "And besides it's hard to make out the Thunderclan scents when the snow is blowing in your face...you try and see how oyu like having snow shuved up your nose" she growled again her little ginger fur bristling with anger.


Hazlekit looked at her sister, "You guys aren't suppose to be on the clans terrotory anyways, it's not right you should ask for permission first" she meowed as little flurry hit her faint eyelashes.

[Morninglily]

Morninglily walked up behind the kits looking at the rogues, "Gingerkit, Hazlekit who are your new friends?" she meowed her tone worried, she falshed a narrow glance at thistle and silentclaw.

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle let out a puff of air through her nose, getting agitated. Old squirrel? She was a cat! "Listen, fox-dung," she spat, "You have no right to tell me where I should be and what I should be doing! Now scat, you little cretins, before I get my friends--" She stopped in midsentence as Morninglily came up. Rat dung! She looked over at Silentclaw, hoping for some back up. We're in deep water this time![/glow]

[Silentclaw]

Silentclaw wasn't sure whether to laugh or growl as the kits made fun of Thistle. He was just about to tell her to calm down when Morninglily appeared. He felt his blood freeze in his veins, and panic filled him. He fought it down quickly. He couldn't lose control, not with Thistle in as much trouble as him! He noticed her a look, and gave her one that said keep calm. He looked back to Morninglily making his expression a light, likable one. "We're just wanders passing through." He said, his voice cheerful and pleasant. "We noticed this rabbit and couldn't help ourselves. It's hard to come by when you're always wandering from place to place. These two found us and told us we were in Riverclan. I assumed we were in Thunderclan, and tried to prevent a conflict by telling them this." He remembered what Thistle said and added quickly. "You'll have to excuse my friend. She's a bit of hot head and I don't make it easy. She was already at her wits end when that one insulted her." he nodded toward Gingerkit. He glanced at Thistle out of the corner of his eye to see if she had recovered enough from initial scare to back his story up.

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle let Silentclaw take over and merely smiled and nodded when he was done. "Yes, that's right. Sorry..." She gritted out the sorry, and hoped it was taken as a sincere apolagie. Those kits had no right to mae fun of her and....what had he called her?! Hothead my rump! He's saving your rump, Thistle, be courteous! She could hear Thorn's voice in her head, calm and assertive. I am! I said sorry! Say thanks. What? Just do it! She added a murmur of thanks under her breath to Silentclaw, then smiled again at Morninglily.[/glow]

[Silentclaw]

"Relax, and stop looking like it hurts to say sorry." Silentclaw said, a little more gruff than he intended. He was slightly embarressed by Thistle's apology, unsure of how to react to it.

After morninglily gave her a scolding look gingerkit had to do something, "I'm sorry...thistle...for calling you an old squirrel..I didn't mean to offened you" she meowed honestly.

Hazlekit thoughts these cats where cool, she admired this silentclaw for covering up thistle, she watched with a curious gaze, "Wiat no I know these cats, their former riverlcaners, I saw them leave when I was a little bit younger" she meowed flashing glances towards the two rogues, "you don't need to worry morninglily" she meowed staring at morninglily with her bright yellow amber gaze.

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle shrugged. "What can I say? My heart rules my tongue, not my brain." She stuck out her tongue to show she was joking, but her anger soon returned. "What'd you just say?" she snapped at Hazelkit. "I was ThunderClan, thank you! Kept to my own side of the border when I was, and am allowed to come back when I want. Keep your filthy lies in your head, not on your tongue!" She started to growl, but stopped in the middle. Silentclaw's right, This, you're a hothead. Tone it down![/glow]

[Morninglily]

Morninglily's hackles rose and her eye narrowed at thistle, "What can you say to a little kit amybe she thought you where a riverclaner!" she hissed spitting at them both, then turned to hazlekit, "Don't lie...hazlekit you should no better not to try to cover up for rogues...they'll turn on you!" she meowed pushing hazlekit to the back.

[glow=red,2,300]"Well, obviously, if she had some sense in her head, she'd know one scent from the next!" countered Thistle. She let her fury take control, her claws snapping out. "Call us what you may, rogue is a dirty word to use on two wanderers!" Despite it all, she remembered Silentclaw's story...if Morninglily still bought it.[/glow]

[Morninglily]

"I don'r care what you are....you never comfront a kit...if you had some sense you would of known better..huh Thistle" morninglily snapped at her, and turned her head towards hazlekit and gave a low growl to only where she could hear it, "And besides thistle I think you would have some manners in try not to have a fight" she meowedpushing hazlekit back to camp.

[glow=red,2,300]"Manners?" scoffed the rogue. "What are you doing, preaching about manners when you don't have any yourself! The kits don't have any either, or esle they wouldn't be acting like warriors to a full-grown cat!" She didn't care if there were kits about; she was about to claw Morninglily's eyes out, getting more blood on her paws than was there from the past. [/glow]((metaphorically, you udnerstand. she does not have blood on her paws at the moment.))

MOrninglily growled back, "I would never preach to a low down Rogue like you!" she snapped at her, grabbing hazlekit by the scruff, and trotting back to camp hopefully gingerkit would follow.

[Thorn & Co. (Night)]

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle sat back as the warrior trotted off. Clan cats. Cowards, all of them. With a sigh she looked over to Silentclaw and smiled weakly. "That went well," she meowed in a dull tone.[/glow]

[Silentclaw]

Silentclaw had his eyes narrowed and was breathing in short gasps, as if he were in the middle of a rage. "You'll end up bringing a whole patrol on our heads." He told her. "I wouldn't doubt that she's going to tell her whole clan about us. All because of your temper." Than he did something surprising. He began to laugh, his breath coming out in wheezing hisses. It became obvious that he had never been angry, just trying to restrain laughter over what he'd just witnessed.

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle narrowed her eyes. "What?" She couldn't hold back her smile, though, and didn't--soon she was giggling like a happy kit. Why? She didn't really know...just, looking back on the situation, it was kind of funny.

After her laughter subsided, she mewed, "So, what were you saying?"[/glow]

[Silentclaw]

Silentclaw swallowed any lingering laughter and cleared his throat. "I wanted to ask you how you'd feel if I made you Guardian." His expression was serious and he watched Thistle to see how'd she'd react. Silentclaw was offering her the position of second deputy, Blackthorn's old job. It would that if he or Savannahheart died, she'd become the deputy.

[glow=red,2,300]The rogue blinked. What had she said. "M-me? Guardian?" She shuffled her paws. Being Guardian--what Blackthorn had done before she joined RiverClan--was a big job. A position of power, something she probably would never be asked again, or for a long time. "Why me, Silentclaw?" she asked. "Why not someone else? I'm flattered, really, but I'd like to know."[/glow]

[Silentclaw]

"I'm asking you because of our argument." Silentclaw said, looking away. His expression was unreadable, but his voice was clear. "You brought up some good points. It's obvious to me that you generally care abut the rouges. If both Savannahheart and I fall in the coming battles, I want to someone I can trust to look to the future of the rouges in charge. I know you won't go crazy and want revenge. I believe that no matter what happens, you'll look to the good of the rouges rather than your own feelings." He seemed to smile, and glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "Is that a good enough reason for you?"

[glow=red,2,300]After a moment of thought, Thistle nodded. "Yes, it is. Thank you, Silentclaw. I'll do the best I can." She was a tad embarrassed that he had brought up their fight; it had nearly come to claws, and he had still made her Guardian? She was truely surprised by this, but flattered all the same. Wait 'till Thorn heard! Aunt Thistle was Guardian!

If both Savannahheart and I fall in the coming battles... "So, you still wish to fight?" she asked, genuinely interested now instead of harsh.[/glow]

[Silentclaw]

"Only a bloodythirsty, irrational leader wants to fight." Silentclaw said, looking away again. His expression turned dark as he remembered the Night's reign of terror. "I think one per generation is good enough, and since the Night fit that role perfectly, I guess I'll just have to try to gain a territory in one battle."

[Nightfur and Co.]

[glow=red,2,300]Thistle agreed with a nod. "Let us hope that is not anywhere in the near future," she meowed. For some reason she stood a little straighter, talked a little louder. Pride filled her, but she told herself to simmer down. Silentclaw had given her the position, but he could easily take it away. "Should we get back to camp?" she asked.[/glow]

[Silentclaw]

"We should get started back. We can see about catching some prey on the way. I'm sure you'll want to tell everyone about your soon-to-be official promotion." He replied. He stood up again, stretched his stiff muscles and got started on the journey back to the rouge camp.

[Meerful]

Meer softly slinked towards the two cats, remembering Thistle from an earlier encounter. She spoke softly and gracefuly, unlike her normal voice. "Excuse me" She said politely.

[Silentclaw]

Silentclaw turned instantly, his claws unsheathed. "What do you want?" He asked suspiciously. Kits didn't bother him, nor their caretakers, but strangers appearing out of no where always put him on edge.
