+~The burning kits~+

[Burningwing]

The sun lay low on the horizon, flashing swirls of gold and red colour showing down on the shred land. It glanced off the glazed surface of a small pool, which lay before a small waterfall, trickling over a jumble of smooth granite boulders and the small droplets scattering across the ponds shallow edge. Small silver fishes fins trimmed the surface neatly, their small brown eyes not blinking once as they darted for the cover of over hanging rocks. Cattails swayed gingerly among the reeds, and small emerald skinned frogs sat in silence, only the constant bubbling from the stream breaking the dreamy haze. A large maple tree over hanged the delightful landscape, like a seagull hovering anxiously above a twolegs who carried a plentiful of food.. Even though leaf-fall was moons away, its huge sharp edged leaves were light orange. red and gold, like the sunset had taken over the usual deep green canopy. Beneath this peaceful tree lay soft jade grass, in the wind rhymetically moving back and forth like the rocking of a cradle. A few old cedars circled this magical place, their growth stunted so that they only reached high enough to brim the over hung branches of the old maple, obscuring the view of hungry predators ready to snatch any cowering prey. Flowers also rimmed the pond and tree, the scent wafting through the light purple haze, lavender, lilac, rose and lily. It was a welcoming place to any creature, I almost seemed that a place as wonderful as this couldn't exist except in the very corners of a wild and creative imagination.

If you looked closely, you could see a browned grass nest huddled beneath the maple, and a small bulging flank heaving with effort to breath, eyelids fluttering with drowsiness, and ears flicking warily, along with a long plumed tail. Why would this she-cat come here for her kits? Because it was the very place her and her brother had been introduced to the world at, and she wished the same for her kits, as her kit hood had been at this place, she had grown to have her heart great and good. Burningwing new that Skull and his pack may be lurking near, ready to snatch her kits and end her life easily, but she knew, she had to give her own kits life in the exact same place as her's had been given. She felt drowsy, and her head spun with questions. If Demonheart really was the right tom for her, he would be here to see his kits, and to praise her and give her warmth and comfort. She never expected it to be like this though, as terrible pains shot through her swolen stomach, she tried to ward them way by contenting herself in watching a small yellow clover bee, humming to flower to flower, as the time passed by and her mind grew swarmed with anticipation. She let out a soft mew, and flicked her tail. " Demonheart, oh Demonheart, I hope this is worth it!" She closed her eyes as a soft breeze blew and a brisk lick was drawn across her muzzle. Fluttering her mismatched colour eyes open, she saw a starry figure perched beside her. " Good luck sister, you have discovered the truth after all" The voice was like a melody to her, but all of a sudden, a sharp pain slashed her side, and it was gone, carried away by the rose blossoms riding the breeze.

[glow=black,2,300]Soft paw steps ecoed across the lands. It was Shard. Shard had sented the smell of a cat and wanted to find out who it was. Soon Shard came across Burn and she slowly bowed her head, "Burn?"

[Bleck- Mind blew up][/glow]

[Burningwing]

The calico queen weakly lifted her head to see who had called her. " Demonheart?" She wailed, sight fogged by unknown circumstances. She raise her head shakily, trying to get a better view of the cat who had called her. Inhaling she felt a jolt of fear as she recognized Skulls scent, but it was mixed with something....deeper....deeper....." Shard!" Burningwing called out hoarsely. " Your alive? I though for sure you were a goner once ol' Skull took you off with his freaky little loner friends. Did you escape? Did you bribe him? What happened?" She lifted her patched tail to beckon the black cat to her, but stopped when she remembered. Shard was blind. " Come." She mewed softly, for all the wailing had worn out her voice. The water on the pond rippled as three silver fish splat their tails across the surface, spraying Burningwing with a fine mist of water.

[Meerful]

//Wow, is it just me, or does it feel like Meer is stalking Shard? Ah, Burn asked me to post here.//

Meer slithered across the ground ungracefully, doding stones and craks and crevices. She hopped across ravines, and jumped down the slopes of hills. Finally, she found herself nearing... Nearing the feel of other cats. Meer advanced towards the feeling, her toned eye searching through the leaves and fronds. Finally she caught sight of them, and closed in the distance between them.
"Who.. Are you?" Meer growled, then she turned and saw Shard, and brightened up immediatly. "Who is this? I'm trusting you aren't attacking os I wont."

[glow=black,2,300]Shard slowly padded her way over to the Thunderclan warrior. She felt happy that she got to see Burnningwing, she felt the cold mist flutter around her and it made her feel safe. "It is a long story" she said softly, tears of happiness comeing to her eyes. Shard's long black pelt and amber eyes matched that of her mother, Blackpelt, she looked almost like an exact twin of her mother but her amber eyes where a lot softer.

Shard herd the voice of Meer and twisted around so she was facing her, "This is Burnningwing, she was a warrior in Thunderclan when I was an apprintice" she said quitly. Her voice sounded much different then it's usually sadden one. Her voice sounded innocent. She sounded like an apprintice again. [/glow]

[Meerful]

Meer noticed the dramatic change in Shard's voice. It scared her, and it made her feel useless. Never in her days wit hShard had she made her sound that... Happy. Meer felt a sudden emptiness, and she knew the next words that would come out of her mouth would shatter her completely.

"Shard... Do you want to go back to Thunderclan? I-I wont be... Mad or anything..." Her voice was tight and conrtrolled, but Meer couldn't stop the cold fear and depression the seeped into her words. In the middle, she even cracked a bit.

Meer pondered about her question, wondered aimlessly in the few short moments while she waited for a reply. Almost instantly, she thought... What if Shard didn't like her? What if Shard was using her? Meer glanced at Shard, the cat she loved so much, and felt a strange twinge in her heart. If Shard didn't like her... Then why had she coem back? The fear clouded Meer's mind momentarily, and suddenly she felt as though Shard was never really there for her, Shard was just there for Skull. Meer almost screeched in pain at the agaonizing thought of Shard being a fake. Of Shard not being what she projected to be.

Not true... Shard has always been there. She was there when I first came... What else would she protect me and come back? Because she cares. She has to... It was almost of if her whole world was crashing down. As if she'd been living a lie.

[glow=black,2,300]Shard was taken back by what Meer said, then she relised that she must have sounded a little to happy. Shard got up and pressed her pelt agenced Meer's tan pelt. Shard's black pelt was still a bit wet from the mist and her amber eyes looked sad, yet understanding. "I wouldn't go back to Thunderclan if my life depended on it, I am to happy here with you" she purred. "It is just- I am glad to see someone who cared about me back in the clans" she whisperd.[/glow]

[Meerful]

Meer nodded, her eye closed, taking in deep breaths. Fear had caused her to hyper ventilate. She wouln't live life without Shard, not even if she had things to live for. She just couldn't. Meer purred and rested the tip of her tial on Shard's shoulder.
"I understand... Well, no, I don't. I never knew anyone that loved me other than you." Meer said with pure honesty.

[Burningwing]

As Burningwing watched the two she-cats, she felt a burst of jealousy run through her, these cats didn't have to follow the clan rules or feed other first, or so she thought. Them other cat smelt of Skull as well, and she let out a snarl of rage." Who are you! And does either of you know anything about kitti-" She broke off as a jolt that felt as if lightning had struck her shook her. Her breath became hoarse and her eyes softened. A small calico hit lay at her side, ears and eyelids flattened. But it wasn't only his amazing colour, he was a calico, but all of the tones were gold, red, yellow and orange, but this was her first kit. A purr emerged from his throat as he gently brushed her tongue along his back to warm him. The small kit sputtered and mewled pitifully until she nudged him to her stomach, and then both of them purred to each other, and Burningwing's eyes went soft as she bent her head to draw in his scent to her. " Scorchingkit, the fire isn't just burning anymore." Her eyes flickered to the loners and her whiskers twitched mildy. " Come please," She softly meowed, wanting company, even if she didn't know who Meer was.

Demonheart appeared. "Burningwing I am sorry got held up... hunting patrol." Demonheart licked her ear and then began licking the kit. He was tired but these were his kits weren't they.

[Burningwing]

The small kit wriggled under the caress of his fathers tongue. He didn't understand what this world was yet, what these things around him were, what he was. All he could feel was warmth and a sand textured stroke across his back. A small squeal escaped his mouth and his maw gaped open, revealing a small pink tongue ad gums. The feeling of grass under his paws was soothing, as was the air he breathed in in difficult breathes as he cleared his nostrils with a small sneeze, the scrabbled his paws among the dried strings of reeds.

[glow=black,2,300]Shard quickly padded closer to her friend and licked the cat's head. She was scared, though she had given birth to her own set of kits and helped Step Soft with her kits. You would think she would be sued to it by now, yet of corse this was a different story. It was her childhood friend, "He looks alot like you" Shard said as she licked the kit's head. Shard's long black fur ruffled in the wind and her amber eyes where filled with fear. Shard sat down ahain and wraped her long fluffy tail around her body. She waited for the next kit to come. [/glow]

[Meerful]

Meer hurried away, looking for poppy seeds. This was going to be the third birth she witnessed one of them being her own. Finding a head, she grabbed it ran back overt o Burningwing nad shaking out some of the seeds.
"Eat them. They aren't poison." She hissed. Meer rested her tail tip on Shard's shoulder, sensing her fear.

"It's true Burny eat them they are just poppy seeds" meowed Demonheart. He licked her head carefully. He then looked at his kit. He was a father. He was happy and then his happiness deflated. He was the father of kits that were against the warrior code.

[Burningwing]

Burningwing let a rusty purr rumble from her throat as Shard licked her head. But she still was wary about the other cat, Meer. But Demonheart's voice calmed her, and she dipped her head to lick up the poppy seeds. As she chewed them in her mouth, she sputtered at the taste. It was slightly sweet, with a bitter tang on her tongue. The pain started to fade and a moment, and drowsiness overcame her, but not for long as a jolt ran through her, and a even smaller then her brother, grey with darker jaguar splotches she-kit lay at her side, as still as death itself. A feeling of dread ran through Burningwing, and she ducked her head to repeatedly brush the kits' fur with her tongue. At first it didn't respond, but with a splutter, it's side heaved and it let out a faint wail. Burnignwing felt relief flood over her, then remorse. She had promised herself to bring this kit to Windclan with it's father when she felt that it was time, but the she-kit looked so much like her father, Hailstar, that it hurt. Shaking her head, she pondered on the it's name. She looked up at the gathered faces, and Shard's face struck her. Both this young kit and Shard she had though had been lost to her at first, but now they both were back to her. " I'm naming this kit for you Shard." She murmured softly." Though the dark may cover you, may a shard of light always shine through." She had closed her eyes, but now they flung open, and she mewed. " Eclipsekit."

[Meerful]

Meer smiled. Wonderful. So long as everyone remember Shard, that would be all that mattered to Meer. Shard was a wonderful cat, and even she had a kit named after Shard.

[Burningwing]

<sub>Burningwing purred and gently nuzzled Eclipsekit, who was breathing hoarsly, tiny eyes plastered shut like her brothers. Her calico fur shimmered like leaves floating upon a pool, glancing off the shimmering rays of moonlight.
