Unexpected Meeting (Lightpaw&&Darkpaw)

Darkpaw had decided to hunt close to the border today, so she did some patrolling as well. Sniffing the air, she pinpointed a squirrel at the roots of a tree right by the border on the ThunderClan side. The apprentice went downwind, and stalked it. Then, just when she was ready to pounce, the wind started to blow from Darkpaw towards the squirrel. Catching the black she-cat's scent it darted towards the RiverClan border, but Darkpaw took no notice. She charged after it, going over the border without realising it.

Lightpaw had just happened to be by the river when she saw Darkpaw dashing past. Not realizing it was her old friend, the orange tabby apprentice bolted after her, bowling into her and hissing a warning, " What're you doin' on RiverClan terra, ThunderClan scum?"

Darkpaw struggled under the RiverClan apprentice, not recognising her either. Writhing about, she snapped, "Get off my terra, flea-bag!" She pushed up with her hind legs, and advanced menacingly, hissing. Her eyes then glazed over as she looked around in confusion.

Lightpaw was kicked to the ground, but she got up immediately, taking advantage of Darkpaw's confusion to advance on her, claws unsheathed. Suddenly, she stopped. " Have we met before?" She meowed.

Darkpaw looked at the cat in front of her bewildered. "For some reason I had that impression, too" she mewed softly. Just then, a course of memories came to mind, flashing through her head quickly, like a slide show. Memories she had told her mind to forget. A rogue... Blackthorn... Fighting... Fourtrees... lots of other cats...a ginger kit... sadness... playfulness... seriousness... It was all too much for Darkpaw. She shook her head. The cat in front of her was ginger. As her fractured mind tried to piece it all together, she unconciously thought about how her technique of forgetting things made her black out sometimes. The beautiful black she-cat hoped she didn't black out on RiverClan terra.

Lightpaw sniffed. Sure enough, the smell of ThunderClan filled her nostrils, bringing back many memories. Of Fourtrees, of the ThunderClan cats, of Blackthorn...." What's your name?"

Darkpaw blinked, the voice of the apprentice in front of her bringing her back to the forest. "Darkpaw... Is that you Lightkit?" the black apprentice asked, hoping she didn't hear the tremor in her voice. She was seeing another cat, a ginger kit.

---remembering the past---

“Snowpelt, hurry up!"

Two cats, one an orange tabby kit and the other a snow-white warrior warrior, bounded up the hill to the four great oaks. The kit skidded to a halt by Darkkit, breathing hard. "Hiya!"

The warrior smiled and sat by Splashheart. “We met again." He purred.


Darkkit nodded a greeting. "Hey!" she mewed playfully. "Have we met yet? My name's Darkkit!”

“I’m Lightkit, and this is Snowpelt. He's a real warrior!" The kit explained. She trotted around the other kit, a rare smile on her fair features.

“Thanks for the introduction, Lightkit." Snowpelt batted at her playfully, but Lightkit ducked and laughed.

"Cool! I wish I could be a Warrior soon! When your a kit, you don’t get to do much except play in the nursery, and I haven't really made very many friends with the other kits yet, except for my twin and Sandkit..." She looked directly at Lightkit. "You seem nice!" she mewed with a smile.

Lightkit giggled. “You too! I usually don't get many friends, since I'm so serious..." She trailed off, looking at the sky.

Snowpelt sighed. “Lighten up, young 'un. You've got friends."

Lightkit gave the warrior a knowing look. “Other then you and Splashheart?"

The white tom admitted defeat.


"Well you don’t seem too serious to me, but I'm definitely not so maybe we can teach each other a thing or two." Darkkit meowed in between licking the grime from behind Burningwing's ear. "Want to share tongues with us?" she playfully asked Lightkit. "Anyways, my friends are your friends and your friends are my friends if we're friends..." the black kit trailed off, then giggled.”It's like a tongue twister!" She laughed.

---back to the present---

They were painful memories, memories shed tried to forget. They had gotten along perfectly, like best friends, and Lightkit had been Darkpaw's only kit friend. Lightkit had been wise beyond her years, that Darkpaw definitely remembered. Then, they'd never been able to see eachother, because they were from different Clans. Tears welled up in Darkpaw's eyes as she remembered, remembered everything.

" Darkpaw..." Lightpaw whispered her old friend's new name. Licking her fellow apprentice's ear comfortingly, she smiled. " It's Lightpaw now." Humming softly her song, she sat, grooming Darkpaw like the whole world had disappeared, and it was only them, two friends seeing each other after moons of seperation. Lightpaw thanked StarClan silently for telling her to come, then just let her mind stop thinking. Lost in the sands of time, she recalled long lost days of carefree relaxation.

Darkpaw rasped her togue lovingly over her friends ear, not even worrying about if another cat caught them. She was extremely comforted by her friend's familiar lullaby. "Lightpaw..." the black apprentice whispered her fellow aprpentice's new name. They lay there sharing tongues for a long time. Darkpaw tried not to think of the time when they would have to seperate again. She smiled softly at her fair friend. She herself was so dark in contrast, like they were ying and yang, but they went together perfectly.

Lightpaw looked at Darkpaw, taking in her once so familiar scent. " What have you been up to? Not hurting anycat, I hope." She meowed jokingly.

Darkpaw smiled as Lightpaw showed her rare, fun side to the the black apprentice. "I would never!" she cried happily. "I guess you probably remember my sister, Sapphirepaw now, and Fernleaf, my only other real friend. Maybe Nightpaw is my friend as well." she sighed sadly. "I know I can make friends, but I felt I compared everyone to you, and they just didn't pass close." the beautiful she-cat looked at her old friend again, savoring her. "I just wish we could stay together forever. I feel closer to you than even my twin. What about you Lightpaw? What's been up with you? What about Snowpelt?" there were so many questions Darkpaw had, and yet, it seemed there was so little time.

" Fernleaf is Splashheart's sister, correct? Sapphirepaw was nice...who's her mentor?" Lightpaw asked, not waiting for an answer before going on. " Nightpaw? I think I head Elkpaw talking about her. They fought twice, and he said he won both times, but he's a proud tom. He probably lost."

She smiled broadly before continuing. " I feel the same way, Darky. Everytime I wanted someone to talk to, I thought of you. But now I have more friends. Northpaw, whom I met a few moons ago, is one of my closest friends, and Dragonheart is her mentor. Sunshower is my own, but I don't know when we'll start training. Snowpelt is fine; he has an apprentice! Her name is Spiritpaw, and she seems nice. He also has a mate...do you know a warrior named Darkstorm in ThunderClan?"

Darkpaw laughed softly as she started answering all her questions and comments. "Yes, Fernleaf is Splashheart's sister, I've met her. And Sapphirepaw's mentor is Knightwarrior, have you met her?" the black apprentice laughed even harder when she heard of Elkpaw. "Oh, I know Elkpaw all right, and I was there for one of their "battles"! Neither won, they were seperated quickly, although I think Elkpaw was to slight advantage, and would have won."

Darkpaw felt a slight twinge of jealousy mixed with the happiness for her friend. "That's great, Light! And yes, I've met Darkstorm, she's my mentor!" the she-cat laughed. "I guess I'm also friends with Knightwarrior, Swiftpelt, Paddingpaw and Cedarpelt." she added.

"Really?" Lightpaw bowed her head slightly. " Because she's something else, too..."

"But, Light, how would you know her?" Darkpaw asked the othre apprentice curiously. Darkstorm was from ThunderClan.

Lightpaw couldn't keep the secret any longer. " She's Snowpelt's mate!" She blurted out, almost immediately regretting it. But she couldn't stop. " And she's pregnent with his kits! He went to Sunningrocks to see her, and she's probably having them right now!"

Darkpaw gaped at her in shock, almost immediately regretting her actions as well. Lightpaw needs my support now. she thought to herself. "Oh, Light, what will happen?" the beautiful apprentice mewed softly. "Is she going to go to RiverClan?" the black she-cat wondered aloud. "I'm sorry I didn't notice there was something wrong sooner!"
