A Blind Cat Never Listens

A dark colored she-cat creep along the grassy land like a snake.Her soft amber eyes seemed to glow brilliently in the moon light that spillted down from earth like a andle in the dark.Cloud smeared over the shy, covering stars and parts of the half moon.The Grassy lands that the she-cat walked apone was hinted with moisture from the melted snow.All was peaseful and quite ,even the crickets stop chirping to watch the dark cat walk by.


The she-cat slowly snifted the air, not a while back her owners told her to stay inside because it would rain soon but as her mother used to tell her 'A blind cat never listen' she disided to run off to find her two closest friends Meer and Skull.The dark she-cat let out a soft meow when she sented smells that brought back both painful and happy memories.As the she-cat moved along she didn't relise that she was being followed.

Niche carefully placed each pawstep in front of the other, walking in the exact same foot imprints. He was following- no, stalking a dark she cat. He knew she'd probably hear him, but when he saw her, he knew her. He had no idea where from, but instantly his mind triggered, and the first thing he thought was 'Auntie SHard'. Of course, Niche knew that Shard was gone, his mother had todl she was goen forever. Where? Niche didn't know, but this she cat brought back memories, and he was going to get to the bottom of it.

The Dark she-cat couldn't help but feal as if something was watching her.She felt like hunted prey, always looking around always trying to find a place to hid.Te dark she-cat looked every were, but could find nothing but the sent of loner.

Niche sensed the she cat's wariness, so he decided he might as well make himself known. Carefully, Niche let his body slink it's way out of the protruding shadows.

"Hello" He said smoothly, his voice seeming out of place.

Midnight's stone-blind eyes fell across Niche, at first her eyes seem startled then the ygrew warm."Niche, I havn't seen you in forever" Midnight tilted her ears forwerd, trying to lised to how Niche's heart beated and how his lungs breathed to try and find how big that cat was,"You have grown so much!!OH I have missed you so much!" she purred as she sat down to wrap her tail around her paws.

Niche twitched his tail and raised an eyebrow. Who was this cat? How had she known his name? Was this really...? But Meer said she was gone... Forever... Niche shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't ever recall seeing you" He mewed. "Have we met?" Niche eyed the cat speculatively. She smelled... Weird.

Midnight should have felt hurt but she was to happy to see Meer's kit to notice that her heart was breaking,She let out a small purr that sounded gental and loving,"My name is Midnight- You and your mother know me as Shard" she meowed in a sweet voice,Midnight closed her eyes and took a deep breath in to taste the sweet spring air "Oh how I longned to see your mother and her family again-but I fear for Cujo...and my kin....But enough of that- how has your life been?" she asked in her beautiful voice.

Niche stared at the kittypet, noticing how there was troublebrewing behind the calm. He stretched his paws out in front of him. Then it struck him. That's Auntie Shard? She seemed to have lost alot of muscle and he looked so different from the one Shard he'd remembered. "Shard...." He whispered to himself, studying the drastic changes. Niche grinned crookedly at the she cat. "How can you see?" He joked to her. "My life... It's... Different." He mewed. "I might be a father real soon."

Midnight laughed at his joke then waited till he was done speaking to comment on his fatherhood."A father eh? Wow time passes by so fast...I wish I could have been there for you but as you can see I am not the cat I used to be eather" Midnight said softly.

Niche nodded. "Well, we're not sure yet. Sakura isafraid the kits might be deformed like we are" He gestured with his tail to his missing leg and his one eye. Niche sucked in a deep breath and puffed his cheeks oout with air. It was his way of not knowing what to do.

Shard smiled,"Deformed or not they will be beautiful, and they will be even more beautiful if you make sure that each one of them gets a place by your side"

Niche had no idea what the she cat was talking about, but he sighed.

"Why did you leave? I mean, mother practically fell apart. No offense, I mean I respect your decision, I just want to know. Curiosity" Ncihe rested hs hwead on his paws, puffing out his cheeks again,

Midnight's light amber eyes fell apon her paws,"Well- You see I was afraid.I was afraid for my life and afraid for my kin's life.So I ran away to my housefolk were they cared for me.Yet my kin still got captured an was sent away-now my muscles are lost and I wouldn't beable to last a day in the forest."

Niche narrowed his eye in sorrow.

"That's too bad. I'm sure Meer and Skull miss you alot." Niche remembered the devastated look he had seen on Skull's face the last time he had seen him.

Midnight closed her eyes again,"Skull- HE dosn't miss me.I was just anoth one of his minions who followed him around like a hungry dog.He probibly was glad when I left-for Meer...Turtle was her best friend" Midnight hated Turtle for she was there when Midnight lost her eye sight, all those moons ago.

Niche shook his head.
"Oh no. You seem to be under a miscomprehension. Skull is shocked. I feel rather sorry for him. He misses you like a father for his daughter. Turtle? Turtle my sister? Turtle died. Well, Turtlepelt. Didn't you know that?" Niche felt sorry for Midnight. She thought no one liked her, and she pretty much gave up all the love that two cats felt for her. "Even I fear I'm helping tear my mother apart. Ever since Thorn left, Meer relied on you because you were the closest thing to her. Don't get me wrong, Meer loved Thorn, but I don't think she loved anything more than you." Niche said.

A soft wind made Midnight's dark pelt swish around like the tree branches around them.Shard was thinking about what Niche had said, "Meer dosn't like me, she never came back for me when I asked her to come visit me.She was probibly sick of being around a blind kittypet...and Skull- I havn't seen him in ages and he seemed mad at me last time we spoke" whisperd Midnight in her angelic voice.

Midnight flicked her tail and started to groom her cheast hairs down, she was so glad to se Niche- but wasn't so glad to talk about people who hated her.

Niche shook his head.

"Would you want to see Meer agian? I mean, it'd only bring back painful memories and you'd think abbout her more and it would only crush your heart up worse. Meer... Well, let's just say there's a little insane voice in her head called 'Auseek' telling her what to do. Er, long story short, she's insane with heart break. Skull... Skull has a right ot be angry. You left him, you left us." Niche mewed.

Midnight closed her eyes,"I would do anything to be with skull and Meer again.Even if they hate me- even if the KILL me ...I want to see them at least one last time" she whisperd as she tried to keep tears from rolling down her face.

Niche stared at her incredulously. "Then why leave?" He mewed. Niche couldn't think how this cat could possibly ruiend her happiness any worse than it already was. "If you'd die to see them, what was the point in becoming a kitypet? We'd protect you, you know."

Midnight closed her eyes,"I don't know.I was scared, and I was lonley.Two of my kits were lost and I only had one left.I could...Ididn't want anything to happen to her"

[Meerful]

Niche nodded. "Well, there's always room for you with me and Sakura. We have kits now" He mewed proudly, his tail held high. "Their names are Kodiak, Pulse, Granite, Ariona, and Flare. They are so cute, and strong. I love them so much. If I ever lost one of them I'd kill whatever made it leave, then I wold probably search my whole life away for them, even knowing they were alreayd gone" Niche mewed. He never was sensitive to feelings. He flickedh istail, and yyawned.

Midnight smiled,"now you know how I feel, just think aboutlossing all your kits but one.Then some one importent to you took your last kit away...What would you do" she asked.Trying to get information to help mainly herself.

Niche struggled with the question, but only for a moment. "Well, I'd confront them. Duh. That's what I would do. But uh... I'm curious- Who took your last kit?" Niche stretched out his front paws and gave his chest a brisk lick.

Midnight closed her eyes,"My housefolk did, they said something about more housefolkand happy...I can only understand few word of there tounge."Midnight said softly.

[Meerful]

Niche snorted. "Well, you see? And you still trust them? I mean, have any of the loenrs taken something... Important away from you? Honestly, I don't know what amde you think you'd be safe there, they trade cats like fresh kill. I even know of some that beat their kittypets for fun." Niche's eye grew wide with seriousness. Even if he looked just like Meer, he was way more compromisible.

Midnight wraped her tail around her paws and just stared at the blackness swirling around her for a moment before giving an answer."My housefolk care about me, they just didn't know what to do with my kit.So the ygave it a better home...I hope" she said trying to sound calm about the whole thing.

Niche shook his head. Would this cat ever understand? Sighing, he replied, "Well, if that's what you'd like to think, good luck with that. I know what I know. Be careful, oh, and isn't your mate Cujo?" Niche almost snickered. Cujo was pretty much his. Niche always used to beat him up when he was younger.

Midnight closed her eyes, "He used to be, before he got killed by a Badger..."She said sadly.Midnight had loved Cujo with all her heart.So when the news came around that he was dead, she was devistated.Midnight let out a long sigh and opened her eyes.

Niche raised his eyebrow. "What are you talking about? Cujo's alive. His brother Venom, said that. He's alive though." Niche mewed.

[Cujo came back.]
