So this was the world? A cruel, harsh line between life and death. Was it all over now? Was the world finally falling the to pieces. Her brothers and sisters had vanished in an instant. One storm and a dead mother did it's part, and now she was alone. The black fox looked at her feet in sorrow. She wasn't completely black, she had oranges, silvers, and yellows mixed in as well. She was small for a fox though, she was tiny actually. At her five moon moon age, she was barely bigger than a clan apprentice. She doubted that she would ever become much bigger. The grey fox was now lost. She needed a road map to life. She looked around hesitantly to see if anyone would suddenly be there. All there was was trees. An endless bounty of trees and a strange scent wafting all around her.

A creamy, brown-eyed tom flitted through the dense trees of ThunderClan territory. His tail was held high, and he confidently swept along. His fluid, supple movements and wily, searching orbs were the quintessence of felinity. All of his finely tuned senses were alert, subconsciously processing every sight, scent, and sound within his radius.
This was Bramblepaw, the fiercely loyal, but kindly apprentice of ThunderClan.
He sprang over a large, old tree root, and his senses instantly detected something out of the norm. A fresh, pungent whiff of an intruder had drifted by the tom's sensitive nose, putting his mind on the alarm.
Bramblepaw could hear a slight scrabbling in the leaf litter; this small source of sound was a grey fox, trespassing on ThunderClan territory!
The silver-ticked tom pricked his tufty ears, the sensitive hairs lining them picking up every little vibration emanating from the intruder. Obviously, the enemy was unaware of the ThunderClan cat's presence, else it would have already fled.
Creeping slowly over ground, Bramblepaw narrowed the distance between himself and his quarry. As he saw a set of black paws beneath a thick bush, his warrior blood surged, and his deep instinct to protect his territory shot through him. With the adrenaline rush, the fierce tom unbunched his taut muscles, and hurtled over the barrier of vegetation, aiming for the little fox's back.

The little she-fox gasped as a weight landed on her back and pinned her to the ground. The smell of cat filled her nostrils. It must have been her luck that she could speak a little cat. That would giver her some communication, Let off, Let off! She whimpered. She was a bit scared. o.k., not a bit. Very scared. Cats were strangers to her. She knew nothing about them and wouldn't know how to fight them if they tried to attack her. Actually, she wouldn't know how to fight or defend whatsoever. She had never had a chance to play fight with her siblings and learn the basic fighting techniques. Please! I not fight, I not fight!

Not expecting such a response, Bramblepaw rolled off of his adversary. He landed on his paws and gave her a little space to move in, but not enough so that she could get away. He looked at her quizzically. A cat-speaking fox. Odd. Staying on his guard, he asked roughly, "Who are you and what do you want here?" The young apprentice tried to put on a tough, defensive front. After all, they were alone out here and if the fox should attack... Bramblepaw decided not to dwell on that possibility.

The fox was trembling. Her golden eyes looked at the apprentice in fright. her eyes were wide and her chest was moving up and down faster than it should've been. She gulped and tried to stop the shivers from running down her spine. It was just a cat. She tried to remember what her mother had said about cats. She had said to avoid them. That wasn't helpful. Anyways, the cat didn't look like it was going to try to kill her. That's what her siblings had told her. That cat's were evil demons sent by the great fox to torment foxes. However, again, as Violet looked at him, she didn't see anything evil about him. He was just trying to protect his territory. Had all she'd been told a lie?
I'm Violet. she said, shaping the unfamiliar words in her mouth, I-I...she winced to try and keep tears from crowding her eyes, I'm lost. Family dead. And I, and I...I just want home Now tears did come. She couldn't stop them. She was about the same height as the clan apprentice was. She was such a small fox! That's probably why she was alone. She whimpered as she tried to stop crying. This wasn't a good impression. They were probably going to kill her anyways. She was a fox after all. But foxes didn't eat cats? They defended themselves against cats. They competed against cats. Why did she feel differently. She didn't want fighting. She just wanted a home.
