Hi guys the following is a speech I will probebly be performing in Speech and Drama this coming school year. Keep in mind I am against Dog fighting and Also that nothing (unless it says it is quoted) is taken from any other writting, I have written all of this myself, including the senario. If you can't handle details don't read.
-please excuse the enters here-
I want all of you to take a moment, close your eyes if you must, and imagine if the following presented it’s self before you.
-small pause-
You step forward, pushing the filthy gray metal door open. It swings with a creak away from you as you step onto the worn dirt ground, the smell of blood, sweat and tears hangs in the air, tainting the fresh air outside.
Chains lay in piles on the floor, along with blood stained blankets and towels, the floor, pure dirt stained with the blood of the many, many deaths caused here. Through the next door you hear people, shouting across the ring they encircle, cash, by the thousands being passed from one person to another.
One person looks to you as you close the door behind you, ‘Bet?’ he asks. He holds out three one hundred dollar bills, ‘Who do you think will win?’ he asked as he gestured to the ring.
As you peer over the peoples shoulders, and the heads of young children you spot a blood stained floor, and on each side is person holding their dog back. On the left a massive white American Pit bull, his jaws wide open as he struggles to take breaths while he lunges and pulls towards the other dog, his owner snapping commands at him.
On the right sits a black and white dog, his ears and tail docked, he carries scars from previous fights, but he just stared silently at the other dog, letting out a low deep growl whenever the other dog made an advance.
‘White or black?’ the man asks, you almost forgot he was there didn’t you? Grimly you pick the black dog and he nodded, ‘Three hundred’. As you pull your money out you hear the jingling of chains, and the dogs burst away from their owners, teeth bared and eyes deadly.
Only a few moments later you hear the cry of pain from the white dog, and look you over again, he lay on the ground, his neck in the jaws of the black and white pit bull. It was all over in a few seconds, blood rolling over the ground as once again money exchanged hands. The man next to you handed you the thee hundred dollar bills and gruffly said, ‘Welcome to the Dog Pit’.
-small pause-
It is the person and surroundings that makes the dog, like the Pit Bull, vicious. Not necessarily the dog.
Dog fighting is wrong, I would much rather have a dog that lays by my feet kind and loyal, rather than have a blood thirsty killer waiting to murder another cat, chicken, small dog, or human when it gets the chance.
The death of these innocent, some times stolen pets, the pure torture that these dogs go through, and the ‘accidental’ murders of innocent people just walking down the streets are a FEW of the problems caused by this hideous sport of Dog Fighting.
Most all fighting dogs are trained since they are puppies, given the taste of blood as young as a few months, and trained to kill animals only a few weeks later.
Dog fighting Detailed Discussion by Hanna Gibson wrote this, quote “Treadmills, Weights, and chains are just a few of the items used to train these dogs, but the worst is the Jenny, also known as a Catmill. A Jenny is a umbrella like structure that can hold German Shepherds, Doberman Pinchers, Cats, Small dogs, or Chickens, these are the most common animals that the Dog fighting trainers train their dogs to kill before and after they enter the fighting ring, most are animals from the free ads. Or stolen house pets.” end quote
The magazine ’The Advocate’ stated the following, quote “March 13th, 2001, Diane Alexis Whipple was mauled to death by a 120 pound Presa Canario,” end quote, this dog was trained to fight in the Dog fighting rings.
Because of the death of innocent animals the Dog fighting continues, but not only money is exchanged at these events, New Orleans CityBussines stated the following, quote “crack and power cocaine, hundreds of pounds of marijuana, AK-47’s, SKS machine guns and explosive devices were also recovered, but the most chilling of all was the milk and cookies that belonged to the young children coming to this event with their families.” end quote
Now of course there have been plenty of chances to stop, or help stop dog fighting across the United States, but because of the lose handle on things, more animals, and people die each and every day because of these events.
There are so many problems with dog fighting, the death, pain, and sorrow from a family that just lost their pet, or the mourning families that had just lost a member, because of a rabid fighting dog.
So if you’d like to help prevent needless suffering please contact the nearest police station if you hear anything about a dog fight going on in your neighborhood or the surrounding areas.
Back home I have five dogs, one German Shepherd, one Doberman lab cross, a beagle, and two mini pincher corgi crosses, amongst other animals. I would hate it if one, or all of them were used as bait to train these blood thirsty fighting dogs. So if you were to go home right now and your dog was missing, surely you would be upset. But later if you figured out that your friend was killed in a dog fighting exercise you would be devastated, and what if you were to see your friend laying on the ground in a pool of his blood? A scene like that can be avoided if Dog Fighting was stopped, so I ask you this, Life or Death?
