[Burningwing]

Sunlight flickered through the clouds, dappling the weathered grey boulders that made up snake rocks. Snow lay upon the ground, crisp and frosted with beadlets of water. A recent thaw had hit the forest, melting away a good few layers of the cold, frozen substance. The trees waved lazily in the wind, tiny green shoots beginning to grow at the tip of every twig. A squirrel perched on an old ash tree, its small nose sniffing the air, bushy red tail flicking before it let out a trill of squeaks and scampered down one of the dripping branches.

Burningwing sat on the highest granite, its tip raised up towards the sky, while the base was wedged between the others. The gurgle of melted water rushing through underneath her filled the clearing, but her shimmering calico pelt stayed warm and dry at the peak of the stone. Her multi-coloured eyes scanned around the snakerocks, but no serpents poked up, until all the snow melted, they would stay down under the bottoms of the rocks, and that was just fine with her.
