Chest swelling with pride and eyes glittering with hope, Severedclaw sat in the Training Hollow. His whole body was quivering from nose to tail-tip. Even his dead left forefront paw was trembling, but only from the aftershock of the waves passing through him. It was so... Shocking that he was a mentor. Today, his dreams had come true and he had proven that he was a loyal warrior to his Clan. All he had wanted to do was train Ivypaw because she was just like him, and he believed that he would never have the chance at teaching a youthful apprentice. Now, he had Blackpaw. Though he wasn't so sure he was up to it. The other day, he had gone around and asked what Blackpaw was like. Severedclaw got a lot of comments like: "What a hyper bundle of fur you're going to have to teach." "I only got two words for you: Good luck." Now that had dampened Severedclaw's spirits a little. How could he teach an apprentice who probably wouldn't remember anything he said because his words would probably go in one ear and out the other. Perfect, he had thought. But he was proud of being chosen as Blackpaw's mentor. For that meant that Brownstar trusted him with a hyper kit, not punishing him. It will hopefully turn out for the better... "If my apprentice ever shows up," he mumbled with amusement. [/shadow]

Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes!
The undersized cat raced through ThunderClan's beautiful forest toward the training hollow. Her paws blurred beneath her. She was extatic, wild with joy. She was gonna be a warrior someday! I wonder what Severedclaw is like? No time to think about it! There was the hollow, her future!
"Severedclaw! I'm here, I'm here!"
Dust flew as her paws beat against the sandy floor. She tried to stop herself, she really did. But Blackpaw was defined as trouble. With a high yowl, the little black apprentice slid across the floor straight into her knew mentor. And with a very load BANG!, her head hit the floor.
Blackpaw blinked her bright round eyes. You ran into someone again! "Oops," she murmered, lifting her head to look at Severedclaw.

Severedclaw was aware that Blackpaw was heading this direction because of the sound of her paws thrumming the ground. Great, StarClan! It seems to me she's exc-- His thoughts were broken off as Blackpaw's small form barrelled into his siamese body. "Excited," he mumbled, spitting dust and soil out of his mouth. Severedclaw usually was a bad-tempered cat, but the euphoria of being this silly little bundle's mentor lifted his spirits. "'Oops' is right. You're first lesson will be to watch where you're going." He scolded. After a moment of silent torture for Blackpaw, Severedclaw laughed his beautiful, foreign laugh and rubbed the side of his face on top of Blackpaw's little head. "Follow me." He got up, shook himself and flattened his fur, and bounded to the shadowy edge of the hollow. [/shadow]

Blackpaw shook her head, a mist of dust rising like a halo around her. As if nothing had happened, Blackpaw bounced up and hurried after her mentor. With a happy mrrow she leapt forward.
"Mwwffff!"
Surprised, Blackpaw blinked her amber eyes, staring at Severedclaw's legs. You're first lesson will be to watch where your going. The reproach whispered in the back of her brain. Looking sheepish, Blackpaw mumbled an apology and sat down. A beetle was scuttling across the ground...

Severedclaw purred in joy and looked back to see Blackpaw staring at his dead leg. The walls and hatred rose from the grave he dug for them. Trying his best to swallow his pride and hate, Severedclaw mewed through his teeth in what he hoped to be a normal tone. "Oh, I guess you noticed my dead leg. It's from an old wound from when I was still in the mountains with my sister, Evermist. A bear had broken--" he stopped short as Blackpaw's gaze turned blank and dropped down to a beetle scuttling quickly across the sand. Severedclaw's face tightened and he waved a paw in front of Blackpaw's face. No response. He sighed and brought his face so close to hers that their whiskers were quivering from locking together. Severedclaw's jaw went slack and he then brought his teeth together with a loud click to bring his apprentice's attention back to her training. This is going to be a long day, he sighed inwardly. Blinking, Blackpaw looked back up and had to lean back so she could actually see Severedclaw. "Hi," she mewed as if the whole thing was perfectly normal. "Know what? I know a really good fighting move! Teardrop told me it was good. See, I'll show you."
She got up and padded a few steps off. Turning around, Blackpaw prepared for her attack. Just as she was about to launch into her demonstration, a subtle movement caught her eye. That beetle, again.
"Hold on. I gotta get that thing, or I won't be satisfied for the rest of my life."
Swiftly, Blackpaw hurried to the insect and pounced on it, crushing it under her paws. Wincing at the crunch, the apprentice lifted a paw for inspection. "Ewww!" She grimaced and shook her paw.
"Right, it's, erm, dead. I...I'll show you my move now."
Blackpaw returned to her place about a fox-length from Severedclaw. "Ready?"
Without waiting for an answer, Blackpaw raced forward and leapt into Severedclaw's shoulder with more force than seemed possible in that little body.

You've got to be kidding me. Brownstar must really be punishing me, Severedclaw thought sourly as Blackpaw flounced off to the beetle. One: She can't sit still! Two: Her attention span is the as good as a bird's. And three: Words--in one ear and out the other. He sighed as she grimaced at the goopy mess on his apprentice's paw and bounce back a few fox-lengths away. I am so cursed. What did I do to deser-- Yet again, his thoughts were interrupted as Blackpaw rammed her small body into his left shoulder. The dead one. Severedclaw's leg gave out from under him and started to fall sideways. But determined not to get caught off guard by an inexperienced apprentice, he twisted in the air and landed crouching on all four paws. Gathering all the strength he could in his three long, useful legs, he sprang up to land only an inch away from Blackpaw's nose. "Nice try," he mewed with a slight taunting edge. I'm the luckiest cat alive! My mentor is completley awesome!
Blackpaw, still on the ground and a little dizzy from her attack, managed a playful growl. Her gold eyes regarded Severedclaw with the highest respect and admiration. The growl quickly turned to a purr, and the little apprentice got up. On her toes, she padded to her mentor, leaning to rub her tiny frame against his strong side.
"You're the best mentor ever, Severedclaw." Blackpaw mewed, arching her back and still moving though she kept herself pinned to his side. "My nursery mother, not my real mother, said I was almost too impossible to ever be a warrior. I'm glad your training me. Now I'll be the greatest warrior in ThunderClan for sure!"

Pride and embarassment made Severedclaw's throat close as he tried to purr. But it came out as a rusty noise that sounded like rusty metal scraping against each other. "Gosh. Thank you, Blackpaw." "My nursery mother, not my real mother, said I was almost impossible to ever become a warrior. I'm glad you're training me. Now I'll be the greatest warrior in ThunderClan for sure!" Severedclaw laughed and licked the little she-cat between her ears. "I'm glad to hear that, little one. I, Severedclaw, will do my best to make sure that you'll be the best apprentice ever. Once I'm done with you, every enemy cat that sees you coming will turn tail and run. Just you wait." [/shadow]

Blackpaw's golden eyes flashed with visions of the future. She didn't regard her small size, or the fact that she was weaker than most apprentices her age. Her mind and heart wouldn't allow her to consider the things that might cause her to fall behind. Hopes and dreams blocked reality. Her spirit was strong, but future events might prove that to be a problem. Her stubborn desire to push forward fueled Blackpaw's desire to learn. Already, attack patterns formed in her head. She could do it, she was sure.
Blackawjumped away from Severedclaw, her paws slashing playfully at the air. "What next?" she pleaded.

Severedclaw laughed his clear as a bell rumble. It was as bright as a chime but had an undertone of an earthquake to it. It held the mysteries of foreign lands of mountains and plains and wars to it. He was a foreign beauty in this land, yet he fit in just nicely. He pondered his frisky apprentice's question thoughtfully. "Well... Let's start with patrolling the borders, huh? Have you been around the territory yet and taken to mind the scent of your fellow Clans?" [/shadow]

"I've been to the river." Blackpaw mewed. She paused in her play to look up at her mentor. Her big gold eyes hardened and darkened with a glare. She had met Silentkit and Earthpaw on the border. They had intigued her, snatched her curiosity. They had been nice enough, but Earthpaw's brother made a rough mark on RiverClan for Blackpaw. She didn't like Firepaw at all. If she ever saw him again, the little cat was sure she would tear him apart, nose to tail! Without her realizing it, the apprentice's tail lash and she peirced the dusty ground with her claws.
She allowed her gaze to move back up to Severedclaw. The normal light of curious life returned to the owl-like eyes. With a half-purr, Blackpaw continued to answer the warrior.
"I've never been to the other borders. Can we go see the Thunderpath? Is there really a tunnel leading to ShadowClan? When will I get to see Mothermouth?" the dark she-cat pounced at Severedclaw's paws. She rubbed her muzzle against the taller cat's legs. She wanted all her devotion and thankfullness to him to escape in that gesture. In a way, Severedclaw was the closest thing to faily Blackpaw had. The only relationship she held truly dear. Someday she'd make a friend, grow up into a warrior, mabye even raise kits of her own. For now, though, Severedclaw was her all.

ThunderClan Warrior
.he wears his heart safety pinned to his backpack. .his backpack is all that he knows. .shot down by strangers whose glances can cripple. .the heart and devour the soul.
Severedclaw nodded and his gaze wandered to rest in the direction of southeast, the direction of the Thunderpath. The thought of the Thunderpath unnerved him. Terrified him at the thought of bringing his apprentice... No, adopted daughter to that wretched place. He thought of Ivypaw, he thought of her being held back because of the Thunderpath. "I've never been to the other borders. Can we go see the Thunderpath? Is there really a tunnel leading to ShadowClan? When will I get to see Mothermouth?" The beautiful siamese tom narrowed his eyes and looked back at Blackpaw. Fear shone in them greatly and he didn't bother trying to hold it back. "We'll go to the Thunderpath last," he mewed. The day was planning itself in his mind. First the WindClan borders, then RiverClan, then the Thunderpath. He explained the route to her and straightened up. Her extra, out of place questions caught him off guard. "Um... Well, I've heard rumors that there is a tunnel that leads into ShadowClan territory. But I've never needed to know. And I don't want to find out. ShadowClan cats are nasty. And you don't want to get caught on their land. Speaking of that, I don't want to ever hear of you heading onto any other Clan territory. Unless it's a mission sent out by Brownstar or in a time of drastic changes. Understand? As to going to Mouthermouth... I don't really know. That's usually up to the medicine cats. So I'm unable to answer that for you. But almost every apprentice has to go there so that they can become warriors. Maybe I'll take you soon if you stay on your best behavior during training. Now," he meowed cheerfully. "Off to the WindClan borders." He bunched up his powerful muscles and dashed into the forest. "If you can keep up I'll let you take the biggest piece of prey on the pile today!"
.all alone he turns to stone. .while holding his breath half to death. .terrified of what's inside he. .crawls like a worm. .crawls like a worm from a bird. [Lyrics from The Bird and the Worm by The Used]

Blackpaw listened patiently to Severedclaw, for once staying focused on the task ahead. She nodded vigourusly when he told her never to cross borders, and let her ears droop a little when he told her that she may not ever see the Mothermouth. She saw the fear glimmer in his eyes when he mentioned the Thunderpath. Her fur rose a little. Severedclaw was her mentor, and now so much like a father, he couldn't be afraid of anything! It made her feel insecure, but even more curious to see the Thunderpath. What was there that would frighten Severedclaw? Curiosity swam in her gold orbs, and mischievious plots to get away from Severedclaw and investigate the ShadowClan border for herself presented themselves to her naughtiness. She could slip away at night when all the cats were sleeping. She could slip through dirtplace where no one would notice her absence. She could -
"If you can keep up I'll let you take the biggest piece of prey on the pile today!"
Keep up? Wait a minute, were they leaving already? "No fair! No FAIR!" Blackpaw squealed, pelting after Severedclaw as fast as she could. Her paws thrummed the earth in a steady beat. Her ears lay flat and her tail streamed behind her. She had been right, there was no doubt about it.
Severedclaw was the best!

Yes. It'll be on the ShadowClan borders. We'll act like they had already gone to see the other borders. I'll create it on Monday.
