((Sorry so short))
Silentpaw smiled, picturing her new name in her mind. Silentpaw, oh it sounded so amazing to her! Her icy blue eyes shined as she gazed up at Dragonstar, their depths showing her thanks. All her anger was forgotten. This was all she'd wanted, all this time. All she'd wanted was acceptance, and now Silentpaw felt as if she finally had it. Her ears pricked as Dragonstar called the warrior, Splashheart, forward. Splashheart was to be her mentor! Silentpaw smiled; though she didn't know the warrior well, she knew she was a strong cat. She'd make a great mentor. Silentpaw turned, waiting patiently for Splashheart to appear so the two of them could touch noses.

SplashheartAlone like a single splash in the rainI can take the rain off of this empty house...
She sat at the side, not speaking to anyone. Why would she if they didn't want to? Sighing she listened to names get called one after another, her mood dropped more and more every single minuet. Pulling her tail over her russian blue paws she waited for the annoying ceremony to end. Then she heard her name. Frozen she stared up at Dragonstar. Did I hear him right? She pulled her tail away from her paws and stood up, shaking herself she padded forward towards Silentkit. Smiling she leaned forward and brushed noses the traditional way. "We're going to have fun." Sure, she was a mentor now, but that didn't mean she had to be serious.
...and that don't bother me

[glow=red,2,300]Dragonstar watched the new apprentice and mentor touch noses a smile curving across his face. "Splashheart, you have proved your loyalty and skill. I hope you will pass on some of those qualities to Silentpaw."
Then he turned to Sleetpaw. "Sleetpaw, you need a new mentor." He mewed, just loud enough for those on the fringes of the clearing to hear. "Thymeheart!" He called, looking around the clearing for the she-cat. [/glow]

Feathersong twitched her tail, resting her head against Firelyric's shoulder. Her whole being seemed to swell with happiness as she thought about being a warrior. No, better; being a warrior along side the cat she loved; Firelyric. She c.ocked an eyebrow to Iceface and stuck her tongue out at him. She smirked and settled to watch the rest of the ceremony, excitement tingling in her paws at the prospect of becoming the best Riverclan warrior any cat had ever seen. [hehelame.]

Bluepaw felt hot embarrassment swell in her gut. She glanced at Nightcloud, who flicked her tail to go up. Bluepaw slowly walked closer, glancing at Firelyric who eyed her suspiciously, before being distracted by the beautiful Feathersong. Before the Siamese could reach the Highrock, she was stopped by Streampelt. Who washed her as if she was her daughter. "S-Streampelt.. This isn't my first apprentice ceremony...." " I know, but look at you! You are a mess!!" After Bluepaw's wash. She quickly ran up to sit by the other apprentices getting new mentors.

Silentpaw gently brushed her nose against Splashheart's, grinning excitedly. Finally, she was an apprentice! She was far behind, sure, but the thought of finally being able to have freedom sent excitement through her veins. She moved out of the way as Sleetpaw was called forward, though she remained smiling. The day had ended perfectly for Silentpaw.

Sleetpaw raised his head, stepping forward boldly and raising his gaze to meet Dragonstar's. In the young cat's stance, he almost looked as if he were challenging his leader. Most cats understood that Sleetpaw was naturally like this; demanding, determined, furious. To others, however, this could come off as a threat. His ears pricked as Dragonstar announced his mentor. Thymeheart?! Well... he could've gotten worse. Sleetpaw's eyes narrowed for a moment, but his demeanor quickly changed as he scanned the crowd for his new mentor. She wouldn't be any trouble.

Wildpaw gazed steadily up at Dragonstar, her gazed filled with respact as she waited to be given a mentor. She was starting to really want Darkwind to be her mentor. There was another reason she wanted the handsome, proud, willing, tom to be her mentor. It was a feeling that she didn't understand completely. Maybe it would become clearer when she was older. She flicked her ears to push the thoughts to the back of her mind, and focused on the meeting, kneading the ground with her paws, wanting to receive her mentor next.

Brookkit's tail twitched impatiently as she waited to be given her apprentice name and mentor. She looked around at her Clanmates, wondering which warrior Dragonstar had decided to mentor her. It would probably be one who was patient, but could come up with quick retorts to match the younger cats' fiery temperament.
The black and white she-cat watched as Sleetpaw received his new mentor. She barely cared who the apprentice was assigned to, she was antsy to receive her own. Once she was an apprentice she'd have more freedom, that was for sure. No queen to continuously scold her, or continuously groom her. In fact, her pelt was half groomed now. She had rushed out to get to the ceremony in time, and only one side of her body was cleansed, the other side unkempt and dusty from playing. Brookkit quickly licked her dusty shoulder, but she didn't have time to groom now. She was sure she'd be one of the next apprentices Dragonstar would call up next.

{ LOCK THE LAST OPEN DOOR } { MY GHOSTS ARE GAINING ON ME } Honeystripe sat silently at the foot of highrock, her golden eyes patiently watching the ceremony. Clan matters such as warrior-naming and apprentice choosing was not as important to her as prophecies and communing with her fellow medicine cats. The she-cat had heard not long ago that Shrewspots and Mintflower--the medicine cats of ShadowClan and ThunderClan--disappeared without a trace. Seems that has been happening more lately...
she mused tonelessly. The naming of Silentkit's--Silent paw's--new apprenticeship made the tortiseshell's tall ears perk. About time. Poor Silentpaw had been a kit far longer than neccessary. The RiverClan medicine cat found it felt like Silentpaw was her responsibility. Was it because it was the only maternal side of life she could have? Taking care of those that were looked down upon in RiverClan? She definitely had no love life now that she was medicine cat. Maybe Honeystripe could quench this thirst for maternity by watching over Silentpaw... " Congratulations, Silentpaw, " Honeystripe whispered fondly--with a ting of pride--as the apprentice passed her. Without another word, the she-cat pressed her nose to the space between the other fae's ears. " I'm proud of you. This is your day, live it as you wish to. "[/blockquote][/blockquote] { WHOA, IT WAS NEVER MY INTENTION TO BRAG } { TO STEAL IT ALL AWAY FROM YOU NOW } [ooc=Fiah] I know that Shadowfire has not been accepted yet, but I find it neccessary to post with him just this once. I hope you don't mind. [/ooc]
Shadowfire's cold eyes glittered maliciously from the edge of the crowd as he surveyed the scenario. His son--no, the biggest mistake of his life--sat beside him, his different colored eyes expressionless and his lips set in a tight line. The warrior leaned down and whispered, " Feeling worthless don't you, pest? Not up there recieving an apprentice name. " When Flare didn't answer, Shadowfire lifted an orange paw, unsheathed his claws, and dug it into his son's back. Flare made no sound--didn't even flinch--as Shadowfire's vicious claws dug even deeper. Like a miner searching for treasure. The only response he got was the narrowing of the worm's eyes. Flare was useless, he needed to scream like the incompetent fool he was. He needed to wish to die. The RiverClan warrior brought his face right up to Flare's good ear. " Aren't you going to scream, to beg? I said beg. " Right now, the only that mattered in Shadowfire's sick mind was making his biggest mistake suffer. RiverClan didn't matter right now. The new warriors: Iceface, Feathersong, Firelyric... They didn't mean anything. That puny mute kit, Silentpaw, didn't matter. [No doubt that Shadowfire would trade Flare for her any day, though.] All that he wanted was to see was this freak wriggle like a worm on a hook. " Don't bother crying for anybody, little Flare. They will never bother to hear you because they don't care about a little insignificant weakling like you. "
[/blockquote][/blockquote] { PUT UNDER THE PRESSURE OF WALKING IN YOUR SHOES } { CAUGHT IN THE UNDERTOW, JUST CAUGHT IN THE UNDERTOW } Of all of the times his life just had to get worse, this had to be it? Flare sat next to his father, his thoughts miserable. No doubt the onslaught of furious jibes and insults would start up any second. " Feeling worthless don't you, pest? Not up there recieving an apprentice name. " Flare tried his best not to roll his eyes. Instead, his rolled them mentally. And so it begins...
he thought drily. A small sigh escaped his lips. Did this really have to do on right now? Especially with the whole Clan sitting within paw's reach of them? The orange and white tom barely noticed when his father's hooked claws dug into his sensitive skin. It hurt. So. Bad. But he couldn't let Shadowfire see that. No way. The firey sensation became hotter as his kin's claws brushed against his spine. " Aren't you going to scream, to beg? I said beg. " I'll never beg to you. Flare thought bitterly. " Don't bother crying for anybody, little Flare. They will never bother to hear you because they don't care about a little insignificant weakling like you. " Flare gritted his teeth. Never.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Wildpaw continued to fidget, wanting her mentor next. It would be just golden if she could have Darkwind, or even Dragonstar himself as a mentor. Her hopes flew that she would get the leader for a mentor, but she liked Darkwind, too... She finally decided that she wanted Dragonstar to be her mentor. She wanted Tinykit to get Darkwind. She knew that Darkwind would love the small apprentice to mentor, and she would want the fiercest leader in the forest to be her mentor. She could learn all sort of things!!! She got increasingly excited, and could barely sit still. She wrapped her brown tabby, black, and white tail around a nearby root to tie herself down.

Darkwind shifted his weight from paw-to-paw. He knew he shouldn't get his hopes up to be a mentor, but he just might be! His whiskers twitched impatiently. When was Dragonstar going to announce Wildpaw's mentor? The she-cat was excited too, he could tell. Her tail was flicking from side-to-side anxiously and she was staring at Dragonstar intently.
He narrowed his eyes. Maybe Wildpaw wanted him for a mentor? But Dragonstar was open as a mentor, too. Would he take on her instead. He knew he'd be jealous of his own leader after that. But Darkwind so wanted an apprentice, a young cat to pass on his skills to. He wanted to see that apprentice become a great warrior, he wanted to feel the bursting pride as that apprentice was given its new name.
But maybe Darkwind's time had not come yet.

[glow=purple,5,300]Wildpaw could sense Darkwind's nervousness[/glow] ((i don't know if thats even a word...))[glow=purple,5,300], and it made her feel sad for him. He might not even get an apprentice. She hoped that he would, and she wanted either her or Tinypaw to get to be his apprentice. At the same time, she wondered what it would be like to have your leader for a mentor... She didn't know, and all of the questions made her feel confused. The small apprentice cleared her mind, and focused on the orange tabby leader, and who he was addressing.[/glow]

A tiny kit sat, her small black body fluffing with wonder, and well hiden exitment. She wasn't up there. yet Tinykit reminded herself. But it was exiting none the less. Her small paws scrabbled aganst the earth as she fidgeted. Soft pelt bristling, Tinykit stood, peering up over the other cat's heads. Trying to get a good view. It wasn't working to well.

Coalpaw sat a little away from the other apprentices waiting for their mentors. His pale green eyes darted between the warriors, then upto Dragonstar, standing nobly on the HighRock. His tail flicked impatiently; waiting was not easy for the black apprentice. Though he was nervous, Coalpaw did not show it, instead digging his claws into the dirt.

[glow=red,2,300]Dragonstar cleared his throat as he prepared to pair up the next apprentice with their mentor. "Flare!" He called into the crowd. As he waited for the young cat to appear in front of him the tip of his tail twiched impatiently. Assigning mentors is so monotomous. He thought to himself. But its a good thing as it means that they will be many new warriors when these apprentices are trained. The two sides of his personality were always arguing inside his head... he didn't have a dual personality, but he sometimes found it difficult to stifle his lazy tendancies. His kind, thoughtful nature, which had him always looking out for his clan, enabled him to do what he had to do without complaint, except to himself, of course. [/glow]

Coalpaw looked over at Wildpaw, frustration etched on her face. He laughed inwardly; her expression was amusing. Though he felt the same way. He sheathed and unsheathed his claws repeatedly, tearing up the earth in front of him. Come on, Dragonstar! he thought. Hurry up already!

{ I'VE BECOME SO NUMB, I CAN'T FEEL YOU THERE } { BECOME SO TIRED, SO MUCH MORE AWARE } Flare's one moveable ear pressed against the young tom's broad head. Dragonstar's summoning was loud in the clearing and the silence that followed was suffocating, almost deathly. Dozens of eyes turned upon him and it was everything against his will to just shrink away and avert his gaze. How would this go with Shadowfire right there? No doubt he would try everything in his power to prevent Flare's apprenticeship or independence. His father was like a nursery queen, he fussed and held on to Flare negatively and malevolently. There was no sweet escape for Flare. And if there to ever be one, it definately wasn't going to happen now. Flare ignored the claws digging into his back and pushed his father away, an angered gleam in his eye. Ignoring the quiet--almost undecipherable--threats and curses Shadowfire was throwing at him. I will not be held back, Shadowfire,
the tom screamed in his mind. With his head held high and multi-colored eyes wide and stern, Flare made his way to the middle of the clearing where he would recieve his apprentice name and mentor. He was finally going to be a part of Clan life--[/blockquote][/blockquote] { I'M IN THE BUSINESS OF MISERY, LET'S TAKE IT FROM THE TOP } { SHE'S GOT A BODY LIKE AN HOURGLASS; IT'S TICKING LIKE A CLOCK } [glow=red,2,00]"Flare!"
[/glow] Shadowfire felt a wave of hatred and an odd sense of grief course hot and seething through his veins. After the rejection and moons of pain he recieved after Shard's absence from his life, he swore that he would put that same misery upon his--no, their--mistake. Flare was just her pawn. He meant nothing to Shadowfire...except that he was his only connection to his reason for living...for breathing. He had loved Shard unconditionally and still did, though it hurt just to even think of her...she would always stay in his heart. Flare was walking away... " Don't you dare walk away, filth. Don't you even think about fitting in, about even being cared about. " When his son didn't look back at him, Shadowfire was immediatly thrown into a memory of Apparition and the daughter he never truly knew... The sun is beautiful... It lights up the filthy alleyways of the city, throwing glamour on its umbrage. A beautiful white she-cat sits by a fountain, she doesn't mind how water soaks her back. A little kitten with a lovely white pelt with midnight stripes and flaming paws plays at the she-cat's feet. The she-cat purrs lovingly. " Oh, Puzzle. Isn't she lovely? I've never seen such a beautiful and exuberant kitten in my life, have you? Star is a brilliant name for her. " Puzzle looks at the kitten and smiles. He loves the name and he loves the kit and most of all, he loves Apparition. Everything about this day is amazing. The air is clean, the kitten is healthy and alive, and he and his mate are to always stay together... ... How long would it last...?" Stop, Dragonstar! I must speak before you do anything more with this ceremony! " Gasps of protest and shock filled the clearing, ringing in the warrior's ears. How dare a mere warrior protest against the leader? Well, if they asked that, they really didn't know Shadowfire. The tom threw himself in front of Flare and glared at Dragonstar with a silent challenge in his codl eyes. " This apprentice is not to become a Clan apprentice with his right name. He is to stay as Flare under my wishes and is to become my apprentice. "[/blockquote][/blockquote]

"Goldburn, listen to me! You're being mouse-brained. She's not in your Clan!" Thymeheart whispered urgently to her brother, ducking her head so the other cats wouldn't hear. The ginger tabby's pelt stood on end from her severe alarm. Goldburn's new notion was one destined for trouble. If he insisted on this, not only would it effect him, but it would effect the entire Clan. Things like this always did.
Goldburn flicked his bracken-colored tail impatiently. "Thymeheart, keep your voice down, won't you? Besides, what do you care?" His sister started to mew again, desperate for Goldburn to reconsider.
"Goldburn, listen, you're not thinking,"
"Thymeheart! Shuddup!"He cut her off with a sharp hiss. Dragonstar was about to announce Sleetpaw's mentor. The golden furred warrior pricked his ears intently. He had set his hopes on mentoring the young cat. Sleetpaw's attitude and personality were similar to his own, or at least compatible. As Dragonstar parted his jaws to speak the soon-to-be mentor's name, Goldburn sat up and puffed out his chest. Proudly, he hooded his golden eyes so that when his Clanmates turned to congratulate him, they would see a regal example of RiverClan.
Thymeheart glared venomously at her brother. Only Goldburn could rouse her anger to this hight. Not to mention all the nervous tension that coursed through her body because of his fool ideas. Sighing, the young warrior turned sad emerald eyes up to her leader, only half interested in the new apprentice. She studied the little cat.
"Thymeheart!" Dragonstar called, sweeping his gaze over the cats until his eyes met with hers.
"What!" Goldburn screeched, leaping to his paws. He whipped his head around, eyes wide with shock and fury. She gets to mentor Sleetpaw . . . ?
Thymeheart flinched, unsure for a moment if she had actually understood what had just happened. She caught her brother's look of utter bewilderment before looking back at Sleetpaw beside the highrock. He was looking back at her with an almost bored expression. Then it hit her.
"WHAT?!"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Quietly, Tigerpaw listened to the ceremony from the back of the crowd, waiting to hear if his apprenticeship would be acknowledged alongside the others. With interest, he watched as his old nest mates stepped forward one by one. How proud they must all be. How proud their Clan must be knowing what fine warriors were coming to join their Clan.
When Silentpaw's new name was announced, the black-striped apprentice gave a hearty purr. If anyone of those cats deserved an apprenticeship, it was her. The pretty silver cat. Tigerpaw kneaded the ground, eager to praise Silentpaw and call her by her new name. He wanted to tell her how special she was and how much she deserved this.

[glow=red,2,300]Drangonstar's head jerked up in surprise, and turned his head to meet the eyes of the tom who was challenging the system. His eyes clearly stated that the challenge was not appreciated and his determination for fair treatment of all the cats in his clan was prevalent. There may be a valid reason for this. He thought to himself, once his original anger had subsided slightly. So he kept his tone at a vaguely calm level but his voice was icy when he asked, "And what reasons do you have for asking for this?" All the time he was speaking he was gaging Shadowfire's reaction, ready to react to any challenge that arose. [/glow]

I'm in the business of misery, let's take if from the top She's got a body like an ]hourglass; it's ticking like a ]clock " [glow=red,2,000]And what reasons do you have for asking for this?
[/glow] " Shadowfire calmly looked at Dragonstar with an almost bored expression. Though behind this calm facade, rage and hatred was boiling in his body. Shadowfire coyly lifted a paw and shook off some clinging pebbles with deliberate sluggish movements. He wanted the whole Clan waiting, shocked and silent. They deserved to wait on him. After all, he was the leader whether they liked it or not. In some way or another, he controlled every little part of their insignificant lives. " Because he is nothing but a kittypet. He doesn't deserve the virtues of Clan life such as a real mentor and an apprentice name. " Flare stared with utter fright at Shadowfire and Dragonstar. Would he pay for his father's actions? Honeystripe was shocked into silence by Dragonstar's side. How dare a non pure-blood like Shadowfire talk to Dragonstar like that? He had welcomed him and his son into the Clan with open arms, fed him, provided shelter for him.... This was an outrage...! For the first time in all of her life, Honeystripe stood up with her pelt bristling furiously and spat at the striped warrior. " An outrage! How dare you treat your own son so scornfully?! "[/blockquote][/blockquote] It's a matter of time before we all run out When I thought he was mine, she caught him by the mouth

[glow=red,2,300]((Do I have to let Shadowfire mentor Flare??? If I do I'll change it...))
Dragonstar stood there, eyes growing colder than ice, glinting as they looked upon the cat who dared to dismiss his own son, a member of his clan, as worthless. Dragonstar's brain was whirring so fast that he almost expected to hear it. How can I solve this? Honeystripe had the right reaction although I wouldn't have expected the ferocity from her. Flare will be given an apprentice name, I will not back down on that point. However, I can tell that Shadowfire will not back down altogether without a fight. So shall I give him Flare to mentor? But how can I do that to Flare? I owe him my protection as a member of my clan, even if that protection is from his father. I can't let Shadowfire destroy his son's life.
Dragonstar suddenly leaped forward to land on the ground before Shadowfire. "Let me tell you something." He started, his voice surprisingly calm but frightening in its intensity. "Flare is a member of this clan, whatever his past and whatever he may do in the future right now he is part of my clan. I have seen nothing that would force me to deny him his right to an apprentice name and a mentor, and until I do I will never, ever accede to your demands." As he spoke none around him could deny that he was the rightful leader of the clan, every word showed his superiority to the tom who stood before him, he was regal and fair in his deliberations, even his movements portrayed his strength. A true leader in every aspect. [/glow]

While Thymeheart handled her shock at having her first apprentice, Goldburn listened to the rest of the meeting with interest. It was as if it had gone from totally disappointing to exciting. The bracken furred warrior couldn't even imagine himself standing up to Dragonstar with the level of defiance Shadowfire had. Thymeheart was muttering to herself and her brother gave her a painful jab in the side when their ginger leader confronted Shadowfire on ground level.Whispering about how things were finally beginning to happen in RiverClan, Goldburn stood up to get a better view of the fight he was sure would come.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eyes blazing with fear and anger, Tigerpaw looked from Shadowfire to Flare. Why didn't Flare deserve to be apprenticed? Who cared about his bloodlines? Tigerpaw himself wasn't a Clan born cat, but he had been raised to the warrior code and now he was the medicine cat's apprentice.
"You need Flare to be a warrior!" Tigerpaw hissed at Shadowfire. "Who's going to take your place, or anyone's place, when you die? Mangy, flea-ridden old bone-bag." he added softly.
" An outrage!" some cat yowled, her voice rising above all the others. "How dare you treat your own son so scornfully?! "
"Yeah!" Tigerpaw started to flash. "How dare -" And then he realized he was falling into a habit he had picked up for his training. Repeating Honeystripe's every word was essential to him in order to memorize all the herbs in their store. Eyes wide with shock like two moon-round pools, Tigerpaw gawked at his mentor. She had to be really furious to burst out like that in front of the whole Clan! "Yeah, Honeystripe!" her faithful apprentice cheered, leaping up and ignoring Dragonstar's confrontation with Shadowfire. "Well said! Flare deserves to be an apprentice!"

Coalpaw watched with growing interest as Dragonstar stood in front of Shadowfire with all the nobility a leader should have. Sweet admiration danced in the apprentice's pale eyes, as he heard Dragonstar's calm words flow from his mouth, so intense. Coalpaw's gaze turned to Shadowfire, and all the admiration turned into cold hatred. This cat thought he could challenge Dragonstar, the leader of RiverClan. Who did he think he was?!
Coalpaw's fur rose, bristling as his tail tip twitched irritatedly, watching and knowing some sort of fight would start. Some cat would be hurt, but Coalpaw's point of view would not change: He hated Shadowfire, for challenging Dragonstar, for trying to take over Flare's life. Flare was his son, his own kin! The black apprentice didn't know Flare all that well, but he knew that he would hate someone who tired to lead his life. The firey anger in Coalpaw's eyes was frightening; he had never felt so much hatred for another cat, until now.
