{{My heart had stopped }}{{After you came into my life }} It was a beautiful day, laying a blanket of comfort over the war-torn forest. Though no kind of battle had hit the Clans recently, one tom could taste it like the potent foulness of ink. It stained his retnas and stained the ground with blood. He blinked, pushing the sight away. He lifted his orange muzzle and tasted the air, trying his best to hone his senses to impress Shadowfire. But that was a fruitless attempt; yet he still tried. Dragonstar was sitting beside his den, talking to Angelfur; a warrior by the name of Icefire padded by the fresh-kill pile; two mates sat purring outside the warriors' den. The orange and white tomcat sighed, releasing every emotion in him out in the air. Though an emotion was an intangible thing, it could still be tasted and sensed. But how was that? How could one being believe something that he never experienced? Never tasted? He stretched, arching his back and brushing it against the lowest hanging leaves of the holly bush that he was resting under. There was nothing much for him to do, except think. But thinking led to Shadowfire and Mother and whatever else plagued his mind.

S L E E T P A W RiverClan Apprentice A sigh. A hiss. A mew. A purr.
The sounds of RiverClan's camp were just so boring. Sleetpaw rolled his bright blue eyes, getting to his paws and stretching his muscular legs. His bengal fur shone sleekly in the sunlight of the gorgeous day, warming his pelt and causing a smile to form on his lips. Everything was perfect. How boring. Sleetpaw looked around, catching sight of the cats in the camp. None were doing anything interesting. Everything was all about routine here. They needed some action. He needed someone to torment, to annoy. His eyes scanned the clearing, looking for his unsuspecting victim, when his eyes landed on fellow apprentice, Flare.
Flare.
There was something about the cat that Sleetpaw absolutely despised. The sight of him made his claws come loose from their sheathes, and his eye narrow into furious slits. He wasn't sure why he exactly loathed the tom, but whatever the reason was, he still did not like him. Something about him reminded him of his former mentor, Stoneclaw. Flexing his claws, Sleetpaw decided that now was the time for a little fun. Why not? Flare wasn't anyone important, and maybe taunting him would rid Sleetpaw of his angered emotions. After all, it was such a lovely day, why waste it being angry at a nobody?
Sleetpaw stalked stealthily toward the apprentice, stopping beside him. To signal his arrival, Sleetpaw scraped his claws across the ground. He made sure he was sitting up, for it gave him a feeling of greater importance when he stood taller then other cats. Sleetpaw smirked down at Flare. "Hey there, kittypet. How's the prey running? You wouldn't know, would you, since you're just lazing around camp." Sleetpaw didn't care that he was doing the same thing, for as long as Flare felt bad, nothing else mattered.[/blockquote]

{{ I'M TIRED OF BEING WHAT YOU WANT ME TO BE }}{{ FEELING SO FAITHLESS, LOST UNDER THE SURFACE }} Sighing in content but disapproval, Flare rested his chin on a paw and batted at a dying weed with the other. A withered, brown leaf snapped itself from the stalk and gently fell on the ground. Flare stared at it, unsure of what to do since his only "plant of entertainment" has failed to do what he wanted it to do. With a hiss of embarrassment and unhappiness, the tom flipped over on his back and stared at the sky through the intertwining branches. Quickly, his consciousness drifted away and floated along with the clouds, making Flare feel slightly numb and uncaring. For a moment, he was in bliss. But then that was shattered when a familiar--but definitely unwelcome--face obscured the weak light: Sleetpaw. Typical,
thought Flare, quite irritated. "Hey there, kittypet. How's the prey running? You wouldn't know, would you, since you're just lazing around camp." The way Sleetpaw stood over him, it put Flare's nerves on edge. The other apprentice thought he was so much better, so noble. In fact, he could have been the clone of Shadowfire. The way he acted, the way he talked, even the way he walked was so much like Shadowfire that it made Flare get a horrible mirgrain and grind his teeth together. But the way that--that idiot held himself just now was how a teenage boy would lean against a wall, antagonizing another to make himself the predominant alpha. Oh, how he hated Sleetpaw. Holding back the rage in his voice, Flare replied quite cooly. "Why don't you stick it where your mouth is, Sleezepaw. Mind your own buisness and jump off the gorge." Half-snorting, half-sneezing in irritation, Flare closed his multicolored eyes and laid back, ignoring Sleetpaw and wondering what to do now that he had gotten rid of the flea-brain.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

"Why don't you stick it where your mouth is, Sleezepaw. Mind your own buisness and jump off the gorge."
Sleetpaw smirked, rolling his crystal clear blue eyes as he looked down at the pathetic apprentice below him. Flare's comments didn't phase him in any way. The tom flicked Flare's nose as Flare closed his eyes. No way was he escaping that easily. Sleetpaw needed amusement, something to irritate while he had the chance. Boldly Sleetpaw mewed, "Sleezepaw, eh? Very creative, Flare, very. There's not much I can do with your name, I mean it's not even an apprentice name. Flare. No paw on the end, kittypet." Sleetpaw remained at his position, standing tall and proud. The marble tom was already enjoying this all too much. Flare was such an easy target.
Sleetpaw resisted the urge to scream in the tom's ear and wake him up. This type of frustration came easily. When things didn't go his way, he got angry. Glaring down at Flare, Sleetpaw prodded him hard with one paw. Get up, mousedung. You can't just laze about camp all day. No wonder you have no apprentice name, you barely act like an apprentice!" Sleetpaw's frustration was beginning to show, but only a little. He didn't care how upset Flare got, he just needed some sort of reaction.

{{ I'M TIRED OF BEING WHAT YOU WANT ME TO BE }}{{ FEELING SO FAITHLESS, LOST UNDER THE SURFACE }} Flare hissed quietly as Sleetpaw flicked his nose. A shiver of fury crawled up Flare's spine, but he held back the urge to claw Sleetpaw's smirk off. Opening his eyes, the orange and white tom glared at the other apprentice. If only he knew about Sleetpaw's past. Oh, boy, would he have had fun then! Teasing Sleetpaw about his kittypet roots and his the horrible fate he put upon his mentor. Man... But, of course, since this is Flare's life, he didn't know. So more trouble and resentment for him, then. "Sleezepaw, eh? Very creative, Flare, very. There's not much I can do with your name, I mean it's not even an apprentice name. Flare. No paw on the end, kittypet."
You don't deserve you Clan name, that's for sure, the tom replied in his mind. Flare's face was a two person one. One side was completely different--opposite--from the other, holding a quiet--yet deadly--part of him in the cold blue eye. While the other--the one with the green eye--held a more delicate part of him, one like a fragile flower. Too much sun, it withers away. Too much water, it drowns. But for once, there weren't two personalities in that gaze, there was only an enraged one. Held together by the seams of patience and self-control. And StarClan knew Flare didn't have enough of that. Flare sighed and flipped over on his stomach, completely ignoring Sleetpaw-- Sleezepaw. The tom smiled slightly, enjoying the evil names he called the idiot in his mind. A few scenarios were there, too. On how he would challenge Sleezepaw and then humiliate him in front of the whole Clan with his muzzle shoved in the mud. A chuckle. The image was so priceless, if only that could happen... " Get up, mousedung. You can't just laze about camp all day. No wonder you have no apprentice name, you barely act like an apprentice!" Turning his cold gaze to Sleezepaw's, Flare replied with velvetly calm. " One: You've already told me I'm lazing around, I get it. Two: I have no tasks I've been assigned to. And three: You ain't much better and never will be." Sniffing in contempt, Flare got up and walked away, his head hunched between his shoulders and hackles raised. About time I got rid of him.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

" One: You've already told me I'm lazing around, I get it. Two: I have no tasks I've been assigned to. And three: You ain't much better and never will be."
Sleetpaw rolled his eyes as Flare got up and walked away. Pathetic. Running away was the most pathetic act any cat could do. Sleetpaw glared after him. No way did he just leave him, Sleetpaw, without a kind word of goodbye? He'd have to change that. Growling, Sleetpaw prowled toward Flare, shaking his marble coat as he did so. "Hey, kittypet!" he called after him, unsheathing his claws. "That's not how to treat a Clan cat, now is it? Come on now, use your manners," Sleetpaw taunted, catching up to Flare and walking beside him. Sky blue eyes gleaming cruely, like a cat stalking their prey, Sleetpaw cut him off.
"Show me what you can do, kittypet," Sleetpaw growled. "Too afraid to fight? You need to learn some respect, anyway. Maybe I should teach you your manners," Sleetpaw didn't move, just glared at Flare while lashing his tail. He wouldn't strike first, no, he knew what that would cause. But if he irritated Flare enough, surely the kittypet would lash out, and that would be the only excuse Sleetpaw needed to rip his ears off. Or claw his eyes out. Or both. Sleetpaw grinned at the thought. "You're not afraid, are you?"

{ I'M TIRED OF BEING WHAT YOU WANT ME TO BE } { FEELING SO FAITHLESS, LOST UNDER THE SURFACE } Walking away was always looked upon by others. Smirks of superiority on their faces. But walking away meant self-control. The ability to smother the urge to kill and seek revenge. Those that walked away always succeeded without having to lift a claw. Unless something got in the way... "Hey, kittypet! That's not how to treat a Clan cat, now is it? Come on now, use your manners."
Flare glanced at Sleezepaw, his lips turned up in the traces of a coming snarl. This was the last he needed right now. Shadowfire was expecting him to prove himself, as always. The apprentice was going to lose it if this moron kept nagging him. "Show me what you can do, kittypet. Too afraid to fight? You need to learn some respect, anyway. Maybe I should teach you your manners." The tom stared at the larger cat with a look of muffled shock on his face. This was absolutely ludicrous. They couldn't fight! If Sleetpaw was as pure Clan cat as he said he was, then he shouldn't be challenging Flare. If I had manners and respect, then I would be respectful to the world by making you disappear, he thought, irritated. "You're not afraid, are you?" Flare's pelt bristled. " I would watch it if I were you, Sleezepaw. It is part of the Warrior Code not to attack a fellow Clan member unless they have done something wrong. And my existence is not wrong. "[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sleetpaw rolled his sky-blue eyes. Flare was such a wuss! He couldn't help but grin, thinking in his mind that the tom was simply afraid of Sleetpaw, not acting on the Warrior Code. Tauntingly, Sleetpaw flicked Flare's nose with his tail. "Aw, come on! What's wrong with a lil playful scuffle? That's what Clanborn apprentice would do." He smirked. "It might actually make you just a little bit more warrior-like, getting some practice in." Sleetpaw circled Flare, like a hunter cornering his prey. This was so much fun. He enjoyed messing with Flare's head; it was better then training, that was for sure.
"You're existence isn't wrong?" Sleetpaw repeated, mock-shock in his voice. "That is where you're wrong. You shouldn't be here, Flare. You have no purpose on this entire Earth, let alone in RiverClan. I'm sure there are plenty of cats here that agree with me. What is so special about you that makes your existence right? Nothing." Still circling, Sleetpaw felt his claws crunching into the ground. He could feel the eyes of another cat on him, and he turned to see Silentpaw looking at them. One quick glare made the warrior-aged apprentice turn her head. Sleetpaw wasn't worried about her. She couldn't even talk. And Flare, Flare wouldn't say anything. Who would he tell, anyway?

Flare's lips pulled up when Sleetpaw's tail flicked his nose. Keep messing with the fire, Sleetpaw, and you're going to get burnt. The tom's gorgeous eyes glittered with silent hate as Sleezepaw circled him. Treating him like filth. I am not filth. I am just as important--wait, more important than you'll ever be, Sleetpaw. "You're existence isn't wrong? That is where you're wrong. You shouldn't be here, Flare. You have no purpose on this entire Earth, let alone in RiverClan. I'm sure there are plenty of cats here that agree with me. What is so special about you that makes your existence right? Nothing." A red haze covered Flare's vision. I can't lose it right here, I just can't! The red haze of battle then cleared from his vision and Flare could see a dark, dreary landscape stretch as far as the eye could see. The only sign of anything other than this fog was a nondescript boulder with a she-cat perched on it. Her white pelt glittered like stars while the black stripes danced like wraiths. Beautiful, gray eyes stared at Flare sightlessly. " Remember, young Flare. A cat's power isn't based on his strength or even if he is a natural leader. A truly powerful cat learns to show compassion and restraint. Sleetpaw isn't any better than you, Flare. You have more Clan blood than him... " And then it was gone. Flare shook his head, feeling groggy and sort of dizzy. Now what in the world was that ? He looked back up at Sleetpaw, his face stone cold and a fierce, determined look in his eye. " I will not give in to you. I am more pure-blood than you. " A throaty growl rumbled in his chest. " I do belong in this world, Sleetpaw. Maybe it's you that shouldn't be here. After all, " Flare's eyes narrowed and a smirk hugged his lips, " Whatever happened to your old mentor? What was his name... Oh, yeah, Stoneclaw. "[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sleetpaw stopped circling, gritting his teeth as Flare's eyes suddenly became distant. It was as if he wasn't even there anymore, just an empty shell standing before Sleetpaw's looming form. A low growl rumbled in his throat. What a freak! And a rude one, at that! Sleetpaw hissed, about to swipe at Flare to snap him out of it, when the tom before him let out a growl. His eyes glared up at Sleetpaw with determination, causing Sleetpaw to feel both prideful and slightly fearful at the same time. What in StarClan's name came over Flare?! Why wasn't he fearing him? It was what Flare said, however, that really set Sleetpaw off.
" Whatever happened to your old mentor? What was his name... Oh, yeah, Stoneclaw. "
A hiss erupted from Sleetpaw's throat. He dug his claws into the earth, restraining himself from leaping at Flare and tearing his throat out. He couldn't know, no way, it wasn't possible! No one knew. Stoneclaw's death... it had been an accident, everyone believed that! Cool it, if you lose it now, he'll realize the truth. remain calm, Sleetpaw, and keep the upperpaw. Sleetpaw let out a deep breath and met Flare's stare evenly, flexing his claws once. "Stoneclaw, you say? Everyone knows what happened; he fell off the gorge. It was foggy, I suppose he got too close. Pity. He was a great mentor..." The last words were practically impossible for the marble tom to choke out. No, Stoneclaw was a sleeze-ball, trying to rip Sleetpaw's family out from under him. He deserved what he got.
"Why would you bring that up, Flare?" Sleetpaw asked, eyes shining with fake innocence. "Envy, perhaps? I had a mentor who actually wanted me, a cat I had no relation to. But Shadowfire, well, he's your father for one, and probably the only cat who'd actually want to waste time training you. Then again, he doesn't seem to care much for you at all, either."

{ I'M TIRED OF BEING WHAT YOU WANT ME TO BE } { FEELING SO FAITHLESS, LOST UNDER THE SURFACE } Sleetpaw's hiss was as loud as a scream in the silence. Flare noticed the fury that coursed with acid under Sleetpaw's marble pelt, the claws flexing, the snarls emitting from his chest. The tom laughed. Laughed and spat in Sleetpaw's face. Wordless cries erupted from his lungs and threw them in the apprentice's face. He knew it! The she-cat helped him, he had information that he could blackmail Sleezepaw with. " Stoneclaw, you say? Everyone knows what happened; he fell off the gorge. It was foggy, I suppose he got too close. Pity. He was a great mentor...
" Flare laughed again and brought his face so close to the other tom's that their breath mingled together. His eyes were slightly crazed and spittle clung to his pearly whiskers. " Of course you would know what happened, Sleetpaw. You were..., " the tom looked away, smiled, and looked back, " always with him. He was a good mentor. Shame that his life was just...thrown away. " " Why would you bring that up, Flare? Envy, perhaps? I had a mentor who actually wanted me, a cat I had no relation to. But Shadowfire, well, he's your father for one, and probably the only cat who'd actually want to waste time training you. Then again, he doesn't seem to care much for you at all, either. " Those last few words were like whiplashes against Flare's heart, but he didn't flinch. It didn't matter, because Sleetpaw only uttered lies. What good did they have against Flare if they were only conjured by a liar and a killer? The striped tom smiled wickedly and stop taller on the tips of his toes; now their whiskers brushed against each other. " You know why I would bring it up, Sleetpaw. I don't envy you, because you are... " Flare looked around and brought his voice so low that is was barely decipherable, " a low-life murderer. And I sure as hell don't envy Stoneclaw, because his corpse is rotting at the bottom of the gorge because...of...you. "[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sleetpaw Define your meaning of war... ... to me it's what we do when we're bored To Sleetpaw, Flare's laughter was enough to make a kit cry. Deep down, though, he was nervous. Flare knew something. It was obvious. The crazed apprentice's eyes burned into Sleetpaw's, and he felt his pelt begin to prickle with unease. How could Flare know anything? Surely, he was being paranoid? He ever so slightly flinched back as Flare got into his face, his bright blue eyes going wide with shock and fear. A growl rumbled in his throat, but that couldn't conceal what he was feeling inside. This was the one time that Sleetpaw actually felt afraid of Flare. Afraid of what he could know, of what he could do with just this piece of information. Sleetpaw mentally cursed himself, suddenly standing taller, his eyes challenging.
Flare didn't know anything. Why would he of all cats know? No one cared enough for him to tell him anything. He wasn't important in the social status of RiverClan. Unless, maybe he saw... Sleetpaw dismissed the thought. It was foggy. No one had been there. Even if they had, to anyone it would've looked like his old mentor tripper. Then, he heard Flare's words. Life thrown away... Okay, that was too accurate for Sleetpaw's liking. He backed up a step, his neck fur rising. Flare only got closer, and their whiskers were touching as he continued with his words. His low, dangerous voice sounded in Sleetpaw's ears, and he held back from squeaking like a kit. No, he couldn't lose his cool now. Flare had no proof. He had nothing.
"Murderer?" Sleetpaw repeated a bit louder, stepping back and standing taller. "You clearly have no facts straight, Flare. Stoneclaw fell off the gorge. That's all that happened. You think I haven't grieved enough about this without your accusations?" His voice rose even more, trying to get other cat's attention. That would make others think that Flare was being heartless to Sleetpaw, make them think that he was being accused of killing his forever-loved mentor. Flare would be even more hated. He smirked at the tom challengingly.

F L A R ECan't you see that you're smothering me... ... Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control. The air crackled like an omnipresent storm as Flare tasted Sleetpaw's fear-scent. It was so strong that it was overpowering to Flare's senses and all he could indulge in was his rival's fright. He was, for once, the one who had the power. He was the dominant one. This sparked a bonfire of determination and boldness in the ginger-striped apprentice. " Murderer? You clearly have no facts straight, Flare. Stoneclaw fell off the gorge. That's all that happened. You think I haven't grieved enough about this without your accusations. " Flare laughed malignantly and advanced on Sleetpaw, the fur along his back spiking up like hedgehog quills. The tom shot glares as sharp as daggers, sharpened to the most dangerous point. " Oh, I know you're grieving, Sleetpaw. Of course you're grieving about the fact that any reason for you to exist fell with Stoneclaw and your soul into that gorge!! " Flare continued to laugh as he walked away, the tip of his plumed tail twitching. " After all, " he called over his shoulder loud enough for everyone gathered in the center of the RiverClan camp to hear properly. " I know someone who was there that would love to tell the true story as to what happened to our beloved Stoneclaw. "

Sleetpaw Define your meaning of war... ... to me it's what we do when we're bored Sleetpaw merely returned Flare's glare, though inside he was panicking. He did know something! But who could've seen, who could've witnessed Stoneclaw's death? Sleetpaw's mind was racing, his claws unsheathing into the dirt and his neck fur rising sharply. Every one of Flare's words stabbed at him like a sharp knife, and Sleetpaw couldn't help but flinch away again. For just a moment, he felt the smallest bit of guilt. Stoneclaw had never been cruel to him, never caused him any harm except in losing the attention of his mother. Immediately he dismissed the feelings. Stoneclaw deserved to perish; otherwise StarClan would've punished him long, long ago. As Flare walked away, Sleetpaw dared to follow after him a bit more slowly, ears flattened against his skull.
Flare's words caused Sleetpaw to stop dead in his tracks. His blood ran cold, and a shudder ran up his spine as his sky blue eyes widened. No... He let out a hiss, though his voice quivered as he growled "Who?" He stood taller. "I was the only one there, Flare. He fell off the gorge, it was that simple. I couldn't save him." His eyes fell, faking the sadness of a cat ridden with survivor's guilt. Most cats would actually believe Sleetpaw's acting, for his head was ducked and his eyes squinted shut as if to keep the tears from falling. How long would Flare keep this game up?

F L A R E RIVERCLAN APPRENTICEI've become so numb, I can't feel you there...
... Become so tired, so much more aware.
Though he hated Sleetpaw with every fiber of his body, Flare felt a knife of pity stab him in the heart as he watched the terror grip his rival in its cold grasp. He knew how Sleetpaw felt; the agony, the confusion, feeling that there is nothing else to do but give in to your animal instincts. Stopping in his tracks, Flare shook those thoughts away and looked back over his shoulder at the marble tom. " Who? " Panic seized Flare's heart. The ginger-striped tom's mind was a chaotic tornado as he asked the question himself. Who would have seen the murder? Who would have been there to hear Stoneclaw's screams as his apprentice pushed him to his crushing fate. It was at a time like this that Flare wished the mysterious she-cat would help him. Slamming his eyes shut, he raked his brain for anything that would help him. Anything that would prove that Sleetpaw was the demon that he pretended not to be. Nothing. Feeling the urge to scream at the skies until his lungs withered away, Flare opened his eyes slowly and stared at Sleetpaw calmly, none of the panic in his gaze. He was just going to ignore the question until he thought of something. " I was the only one there, Flare. He fell off the gorge, it was that simple. I couldn't save him.
" Flare knew he couldn't save him. Afraid for his life, Flare replied slowly, cautiously. " Of course you couldn't save him, Sleezepaw, " Flare mewed in mock sorrow. " Any cat with two brain cells to rub together would know not to save the mentor they just subjected to death. " Flare tried to swallow the saliva that pooled in his mouth but found that a lump formed in his throat, blocking the passageway. He tried not to panic, to gulp for air like it was his last breath. Sleetpaw couldn't win this battle!! Flare had to find someone who would prove his theory correct!! It was just then that Flare felt true terror... Thymeheart... She was Sleetpaw's mentor now... If he dared lay a claw on her--! Flare shivered, his heart cracking under the pressure. This whole feud had to take a different turn. " You know, Sleetpaw, " he drawled lazily, the panic showing in the way his whiskers stood stiff. " I know why you killed Stoneclaw... I can understand how you felt that you had to get rid of him to protect your mother... But the thing is, " he glanced at the warriors' den. " You look nothing like her... I wonder why. You obviously have no RiverClan blood in you. "[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sleetpaw Define your meaning of war... ... to me it's what we do when we're bored That one word had saved Sleetpaw. He grinned with satisfaction, not hiding the grin from Flare at all. Flare's voice, filled with fake pity, just built up Sleetpaw's confidence even more. The battle was turning around, back in his favor. The marble tom's pelt lay flat again and his claws returned to his sheathes. Flare had been bluffing all along. He knew nothing. No one knew anything. Though he wanted to let out a sigh of complete and total relief, Sleetpaw held back. This wasn't over yet. Flare's words merely bounced off of Sleetpaw like a sword hitting a sheild. Nothing his rival could say about Stoneclaw would faze him now. Flare was as clueless as the rest of the Clan. That was how Sleetpaw needed it to stay.
Then, Flare's lazy drawl came into Sleetpaw's ears. He was still nervous; Sleetpaw could see it in the tom's stiff whiskers. But the words that he uttered made Sleetpaw grow tense. He'd often wondered that as well. Why did he look nothing like his mother? Cloudfeather had told him that he looked just like his father, Sleetfoot, who had died before he was born. Surely that was logical, right? Sleetpaw's eyes grew distant, replaying a memory in his head.
"Momma!" Sleetkit mewled, barreling into the Nursery. Cloudfeather looked up from her grooming, her pale silver pelt glistening in the cascading light that flowed into RiverClan camp. Cloudfeather smiled down at him, and Sleetkit felt a rush of warmth go through him. He loved his mother. He felt completely lucky to have her after the loss of his father and siblings.
"What is it?" Cloudfeather mewed. Sleetkit looked up at her innocently."Why don't I look like you?" Sleetkit asked. "All the other kits look just like their parents. That mean kit Jaggedkit keeps calling me a kittypet." He looked up at her with wide sky-blue eyes. "I'm not a kittypet, am I?" At that moment, all the other queens had looked over. Cloudfeather shook her head, as if stunned by Sleetkit's words. "Of course not!" she mewed. "You're named after your father, Sleetfoot, who you look just like. Don't worry about it, Sleetkit. You're fully RiverClan. Sleetpaw shook the memory from his mind. Why had all the other queens been looking over at them, so wary and nervous for his mother's answer? It had to have been the thought of bringing up Sleetfoot again, that had to be it. He rolled his eyes, pretending to be unamused by Flare's childish accusations. "Of course I have RiverClan blood, mouse-brain." Sleetpaw hissed, annoyed. "My father died before I was born. I look just like him my mother says. Unlike you and your tained blood, I'm full RiverClan. Right? he thought to himself, keeping his guarded expression on his face.[/blockquote]

F l a r e{ I'VE BECOME SO NUMB I CAN'T FEEL YOU THERE } { BECOME SO TIRED, SO MUCH MORE AWARE } Flare's eyes widened and he stepped back, terror making his pelt stand on end. He knew that Sleetpaw killed Stoneclaw, he did! But was there any way to prove it? There was no other witness besides Sleetpaw, Stoneclaw, and StarClan...
I may not have been there, but StarClan was!
Flare felt like he could do a little two-step, he was so happy. Up until now, he was grasping at straws until he ran out with nothing to torment Sleetpaw further. But that was all thanks to Flare and his rash comments. The tom mentally shrugged his shoulders; to heck with it, he was going to make his rival beg for mercy. " StarClan saw what you did, and now Stoneclaw has joined their ranks as one of them. They can visit whenever they please, Sleetpaw. And how long do you think it will be before Honeystripe recieves a sign from StarClan saying that there is a murderer in our ranks, " he yowled, drawing more cats out of their dens. Some apprentices popped their heads out from the reeds, their eyes wide in shock; Honeystripe's golden eyes could be seen in the darkness of her den; Shadowfire dark, shadowy form paraded into camp with his silver eyes on Flare, burning with a rage unimaginable. " Of course I have RiverClan blood, mouse-brain. My father died before I was born. I look just like him my mother says. Unlike you and your tainted blood, I'm full RiverClan. " Flare's claws unsheathed, digging into the ground with tremendous force. Blood doesn't matter! It's the warrior that matters! The tom snorted and rolled his eyes, trying to keep up a calm, nonchalant demeanor. He bared his teeth at Sleetpaw in a smirk, imagining himself clawing the other tom's ears off. " Says the hypocrite, " he laughed darkly. Flare opened his mouth to shoot more accusations at Sleezepaw but was then stopped by the weight of Shadowfire's large paw on his shoulder. Swallowing his terror, Flare turned hestitantly to glance at Shadowfire, the whites of his eyes showing. " What is the meaning of this? " he snarled, maw open to display an assembly of saber-like teeth. Flare ducked his head and said nothing, afraid to displease his father even more. The dark tabby was studying Sleetpaw and then glared at Flare, his eyes only two slivers of moons. " Well, Flare, it seems to me that you have been challenged. Are you going to be a pathetic runt and let him antagonize you or are you actually going to fight with tooth and claw instead of words? " Shadowfire's voice was lathered in resentment when his attention was directed to Flare but mollified when he turned his cold gaze onto Sleetpaw. He wants that piece of crowfood to be his son! the tom wailed silently. Digging his claws into the ground, Flare cowered and glanced at Sleetpaw, his eyes wide and uncertain. He nodded silently, ears pressed flat against his head. A determined, fierce look turned his face to stone as he took a tentative step to the side, starting to circle his fellow apprentice. Silent cats watched with earnest eyes as the timid Flare stepped up to the challenge. Please don't let me regret this! he pleaded.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sleetpaw Define your meaning of war... ... to me it's what we do when we're bored " StarClan saw what you did, and now Stoneclaw has joined their ranks as one of them. They can visit whenever they please, Sleetpaw. And how long do you think it will be before Honeystripe recieves a sign from StarClan saying that there is a murderer in our ranks, " "She never will," Sleetpaw replied back, his voice even. Flare doesn't know anything, we've gathered that already. His words have nothing to support them. Don't let anything he says get into your head!! Sleetpaw rolled his eyes at Flare's accusation of him being a hypocrite. This tom was so childish at times that it made Sleetpaw want to send him back to the nursery. He opened his mouth at the same time that Shadowfire appeared, slamming his paw onto Flare's shoulder. Even Sleetpaw stepped back at this, shocked by the force of Flare's father's blow. Still he smirked, lashing his tail and feeling as if he'd won. Shadowfire wasn't on Flare's side, that was certain. That had to hurt Sleetpaw's rival more then anything, having their own blood against them. He flexed his claws at the thought. The sight of Shadowfire's cold gaze moving to him caused him to shift away just a bit, and then Flare's cowering eyes caught Sleetpaw's gaze. Too easy, he thought to himself, a satisfied smirk on his face. Just wait till I kick his tail in front of everyone, even his own father! Sleetpaw's sky-blue eyes followed Flare as the tom circled him. "You heard Shadowfire, Flare," he taunted, lashing his tail. "Step up and fight me like a warrior. But wait, how can kittypets fight like warriors, when they're never going to be a warrior? Hm, interesting. We'll see how this works out. Sleetpaw smirked, showing his pearly white fangs at Flare as he unsheathed his claws. Oh, this would be fun.[/blockquote]

Flare { IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMIN', AND THE TABLES TURNED AROUND } { 'CAUSE ONE OF US IS GOING, ONE OF US IS GOING DOWN } All eyes on me in the center of the ring. And it was true; everybody was staring at the battle that was about to unfold with genuine amazement. Flare looked around, hoping to find somebody to bail him out of this mess he had gotten himself into. Yet as he looked at every cat in turn (even the shy and passive Honeystripe) Flare could see no signs of support. Flare's muscles tensed under his thick pelt, making the orange stripes on his fur ripple like water with a fiery sheen. Baring his teeth at Sleetpaw, the striped tom unsheathed his claws and ran them back and forth on the ground, imagining the gouges on Sleetpaw's face instead.
" She never will.
" A hideous red haze was filming over Flare's vision as he snarled viciously, his long fangs glinting in the sunlight. The beau thought he could actually hear the phantom fae's sigh of disapproval along with the incoherent mutterings of the Clan. Flare's resolve was starting to break as he took a careful step forward, his whole body quivering with tension. What would happen if he stood up to the challenge? Would he face the consequences for Shadowfire's and Sleetpaw's eagerness to fight? Or would they be punished? The beau glanced at Dragonstar's shadowy den, his eyes narrowed against the sun's glare. Let him be understanding. " You heard Shadowfire, Flare. Step up and fight me like a warrior. But wait, how can kittypets fight like warriors, when they're never going to be a warrior? Hm, interesting. We'll see how this works out. " Flare snarled and stood upright from his crouch, his blue and green eyes as cold as flint. Poison hissed in his veins as he let his long, serrated claws tear up the loam at his feet. Don't do this, Flare. Fighting doesn't always solve everything. . ." Yes it does, " he hissed under his breath. The striped tom flinched as Shadowfire padded up beside him, his own vicious claws unsheathed. His father's silver gaze was emotionless and cold as he looked from Flare to Sleetpaw, and then back to his son. The young tom supressed a tremor of terror that brushed subtly up and down his spine. " Enough of this!! Actually fight! " Flare closed his eyes, picturing Thymeheart's hurt gaze. I'm sorry, Thyme. . . But I have to make a stand for once. Flare!! Don't you dare do this!! Are you trying to kill yourself? If Sleetpaw doesn't shred you, Shadowfire will. You've got to realize that fighting doesn't cure your problems!! Stop telling me what to do. You and everybody else have done nothing but lead my life for me. Well, I'm done with it. I'm making my own decisions now. Flare's muscles in his body tightened before he lunged at Sleetpaw, his body kept closer to the ground; his target was for his rival's large paws. Hopefully, he would be able to disturb his equillibrium and throw Sleetpaw off balance, possibly pinning his down and dealing a blow to the eyes. Flare yearned for Sleetpaw's pitiful, pleading cries. " Don't cry when you feel the pain, Sleetpaw. "[/blockquote][/blockquote] tag; cinder! muse; sucks, but at least i finished this notes; i have an epic idea! flare and sleetpaw start fighting very viciously and thymeheart has to intervene! huh? lyrics; you're going down by sick puppies (weeee, you got me addicted to them!! X3)

Sleetpaw Define your meaning of war... ... To me it's what we do when we're bored Sleetpaw watched with a smirk on his face, his sky-blue eyes glimmering with the chance of a fight, a chance to spill Flare's blood all over the ground. But part of him felt... guilty. Because of Thymeheart. Sleetpaw resisted to snarl at the name. She'd made it very clear whom she loved: it was Flare. And he hated the ginger-striped tom even more for that. But if Thymeheart cared about Flare, wouldn't he be hurting her by hurting him. Only a slight flicker of doubt crossed his face, but it was gone before anyone could see it. Why did he care if he hurt Thymeheart? She'd hurt him even worse. She cared for Flare, whether it be love or not, and to Sleetpaw that was the ultimate betrayal.
Because either way, Flare was more important to her then he was.
Sleetpaw snapped back to reality just in time to see Flare lunge. He tried to move, but Flare caught ahold of his large paws. No way was he going down that easily! With a hiss Sleetpaw reeled backwards, stumbling only a couple times but never falling. He snarled a feral snarl. Flare couldn't win this, he couldn't have everything. Sleetpaw would take away any respect his Clanmates had for him- if there was any- by burying Flare's face in the dirt. Sleetpaw snarled and lashed out with his long claws, hoping to catch Flare by the shoulder or chest, and stepped back before the tom could lash back out at him.
His eyes moved to the crowd, not seeing Thymeheart's face among it. Good, he thought to himself grimly. I'd rather her hear about this then see it. Quickly Sleetpaw's eyes moved back to Flare, awaiting the next move.
((Ahhh, my muse fails me here D: Brilliant idea, Fiah! And I love that I got you addicted to the amazingness of Sick Puppies =D))[/blockquote]

Flare { TO HIS CLOSING ARGUMENT, TWELVE HEARTS BEAT IN FAVOR } { I'M GUESSING THAT HE READ THE MORNING PAPER } Sometimes, it feels as if the world is against us.
To be blunt, it is.
Who knows where hatred or envy or avarice came from, but some little seed of an unpleasant emotion settled in someone's heart and grew until it completely imbued its miserable host. That seed was like a feverish contagion; it blossomed and flew on the winds of agony until it spread to the four corners of the earth, creating its little army with spores of sulfuric spite. And then. . . It was the end.
The blood roaring in Flare's ears only grew louder as he crashed into the dirt, jagged rocks pushing through his fur and into his skin. The tom smirked as he tangled Sleetpaw's feet with his own, throwing his enemy off balance for a moment. He watched with maliciously glittering eyes as the marble tom sprang back on his hinds paws, his front paws flailing wildly in the air; as if he could grab onto the air and make it keep him there. Flare looked away for a split second to glance at Shadowfire's closed visage before Sleetpaw brought his claws down on Flare's shoulders. An explosion of blood filled the ginger and white tom's mouth as the impact jarred his jaws, making his teeth meet together through his tongue. Hissing in pure fury, he sprang to his paws and quickly drew closer to his enemy, his eyes burning coldly. Nothing held him back as he continued to stalk up to Sleetpaw, his lips curling back to reveal ruby dripping fangs. His multi-colored pair of eyes narrowed, the veins around the edges pulsing rapidly. " Eat this, Sleezepaw, " he chuckled as he spat a mouthful of blood into the other tom's face, hopefully blinding him momentarily.
Never before had Flare felt so bloodthirsty, wishing. . .No, yearning for the feeling of a cat's warm blood lapping at his paws, dragging him into a river of its beautiful, burgundy depths. You hate Shadowfire, but what makes you so different from him if you fight for blood like him?
Fireice's soft voice whispered in his ear, her voice slightly panicky. What makes us different is the fact that I am only going to kill those that deserve it, he replied as a booming, feral snarl ripped out of his chest. The numerous scars on his body stretched as he flexed his muscles, enjoying the way they moved so gracefully over his thick bones. He had never fought before, but he was born to do it. Flare caught the subtle movement of Sleetpaw's sky blue eyes as he looked around for the familiar form of Thymeheart. The striped tom smirked as he continued to advance on his enemy, gutteral, growling chuckles bubbling at his lips along with the buckets of blood pouring out of his mouth. " What is it, Sleetpaw? Looking for Thymeheart? Don't bother; she doesn't love you. . . And she's definitely not going to pity you when I humiliate you in front of those that you have thought of as your family. " He broke off and coyly groomed a flame-cloaked paw, his punctured tongue leaving a hideous red smear on the fur. A black fire hissed and roared in his heart as he glanced at Sleetpaw before raising an unsheathed paw, the blood on it glittering ominously in the harsh sunlight. " Now what do you have to think about that, half-breed? "[/blockquote][/blockquote] tag; muse is epic fail... mrrph... ( /dies ) muse; i reaaaally don't want to knownotes; sick puppies rocks!! ( /bashes head ) i love a lot of different music, though. Have you heard Monster by Skillet?lyrics; you're crashing but you're no wave by fall out boy

Sleetpaw Define your meaning of war... ... To me it's what we do when we're bored Sleetpaw smirked proudly as his claws made contact with their target, but fear flashed momentarily through his sky-blue eyes when he saw Flare's bloody fangs bore at him. Sleetpaw snarled, lashing his tail and preparing to leap at the ginger tom when suddenly he felt a burning sensation in his eyes. Sleetpaw hissed in pain, feeling the blood that Flare had spit at him dripping down his face. The marble tom quickly rubbed his eyes with his paw, groaning from the firey pain shooting through his bright blue eyes. When he opened them again they were bloodshot and frightening to look at, like a monster from a horror movie. No longer were they that simple, beautiful blue.
Then came Flare's comment about Thymeheart.
Sleetpaw had always hated Flare for reasons unknown, but now, now it was different. He'd never wanted the ginger-striped tom dead, that is until now, at that moment. He could practically taste the worthless tom's blood running down his jaw, and he licked his lips at the thought. At that moment he didn't care how much it would hurt Thymeheart, or that he'd probably be driven from the Clan for murder. He just wanted Flare dead at his paws, wanted to hear the tom breathe his last breath, wanted to see him give one final shudder. His whole body trembled at the thought, the fury that Sleetpaw felt only fueling his fire.
Immediately the marble-coated tom jumped away from Flare's unsheathed paw. "Half-breed?" he echoed, his voice ringing with mock-confusion. "Have you seen yourself, Flare? You are the furthest thing from warrior blood that I've ever laid eyes on. I'd rather have a kitten with all its senses removed serve beside me then you, because you're worthless." He smirked, moving nimbly to the side again. He had to keep moving, so Flare couldn't strike at him again."Where is your mother, Flare? I see none, while my mother still thrives healthily in the Clan. And your father? He may be here, but he doesn't care about you at all, Flare." With another taunting glance Sleetpaw moved again, this time ending up on Flare's right side. "No one does. You're only here out of pity. There is not a single soul in this whole camp who would care if I ripped your throat out right now. Not even Thymeheart." Lies, he thought to himself, knowing how badly Thymeheart would be hurt if he killed Flare. But it didn't matter. He just needed to get inside his head."She doesn't care about you either, Flare. Thymeheart is just a nice cat, that's the only reason she bothers with you. Everything she's said to you, every glance, ever smile, was all out of pity. You're her charity case. And what about that tom, Surfpaw, who you say is your best friend?" Sleetpaw looked around for dramatic effect. "Hm, funny, your so-called pal isn't here to defend you. Don't you see, Flare? No one cares." As soon as his words were done Sleetpaw lunged again, aiming to sink his teeth into Flare's shoulder and his claws into the tom's leg.
((I too have a very wide music variety, lol. Hm, no, i don't think i've heard that song -goes to listen-))[/blockquote]

Flare { IT'S HIDING IN THE DARK, ITS TEETH ARE RAZOR SHARP } { THERE'S NO ESCAPE FOR ME; IT WANTS MY SOUL, IT WANTS MY HEART } Flare had never let anybody see the secret side of him. He tried to keep it caged, but he could feel the rage whenever it awoke. This bloodlust that dwelled inside his heart's atriums was a dark monster. It was uncontrollable; nobody could make it end.
It was right beneath the skin--and now it was ripping its way out.
All of the monsters hiding in my dreams. . . They have permeated my skin and are inside of me,
he whimpered to Fireice, a part of him knowing that she was there--that she had always been with him. A distraction to alleviate the constant agony. Oh, Flare. . . was all she could say in reply, her voice filled to the brim with sorrow. Flare closed his glistening eyes and hung his head, his ears pressed flat against his skull. He had lost. Sleetpaw's hiss of fury reclaimed his attention as he watched the marble tom rub at his eyes, opening them to reveal they were horrible and bloodshot. Two thin streams of blood leaked out of the tear ducts, creating the illusion that he had been crying bloody tears. Or maybe it was Flare's tears that he had shed on his enemy? " Half-breed? Have you seen yourself, Flare? You are the furthest thing from warrior blood that I've ever laid eyes on. I'd rather a kitten with all its senses removed serve beside me then you, because you're worthless. " The ginger and white tom's face grew cold, bretraying no other emotion besides hatred and determination.Though he knew it was hopeless for him, he was going to fight the monster inside of him instead of succumbing to it--like Shadowfire and Sleetpaw had done. I know I'm worthless, he replied silently, his multi-colored eyes portraying his hurt for an instant of a second. The tom bared his teeth, his plumed tail lashing at the air while his claws became bloody from pulling at the sheathes so hard. He could feel the monster deep within, yearning for the coming carnage. Flare could feel the walls he built around it start to crumble away. " Where is your mother, Flare? I see none, while my mother still thrives healthily in the Clan. And your father? He may be here, but he doesn't care about you at all, Flare. " If Flare had known about his true mother, he would have used that as buoyancy. For wouldn't Sleetpaw fear him for being the son of the infamous Shard? Shard, the she-cat who could kill with one look of her blind gaze. Sadly, he didn't know, leaving him open to the scorn and criticism. But he had his sharp tongue and temper, an odd gift from his father. " At least my mother hasn't been with all of the toms in the Clan, " he purred, batting his eyes for dramatic effect. " I mean, she was interested in Stoneclaw. . . Well, before you killed him, that is. " He broke off and tsked! quietly, wagging a paw at Sleetpaw. " What would she think? You killing her-- " He smirked and pretended to count on his toes. " Well, I lost count after six mates. " " No one does. You're only here out of pity. There is not a single soul in this whole camp who would care if I ripped your throat out right now. Not even Thymeheart. " " Thymeheart-- " he whispered, his throat constricting in fear. She did love him, didn't she? After all, she had confessed her feelings to him by the river while the sky was being painted by the dawn. He knew that she was too good for him, so it wasn't hard for him to convince himself that she could disappear any moment. It hurt. Flare flinched at the triumphant glow in Sleetpaw's bloodshot eyes. A river of blood dripped out of the corner of Flare's frowning mouth, turning him into a ginger tom with the paintbrush strokes of war on him. A defeated, agonized look etched itself into the worry lines on the beau's face, turning him from a heartsick tom to a ruined veteran. Drinking his life away because he dreaded going to sleep and dreaming of all of the men he had to kill. It was either you had to react or get blown into fractions. Drowning yourself in spirits instead of your plethora of sorrows--if only Flare could do that. " She doesn't care about you either, Flare. Thymeheart is just a nice cat, that's the only reason she bothers with you. Everything she's said to you, every glance, every smile, was all out of pity. " Flare tried to snarl in return but felt the noise die in his windpipe, a choked sound coming out instead. He scowled even harder, ignoring the burning sensation in his eyes. The tom would have normally replied with an even more caustic retort, but Sleetpaw's stinging comment hit home. . . Right on his bleeding heart. All Flare wanted was to be loved, no matter how little the favor was. But he was a pariah in his own home, his family. They had only taken him in because they honored Shadowfire's strength--not bothering to note his cruelty to his son. " You're her charity case. And what about that tom, Surfpaw, who you say is your best friend? Hm, funny, your so-called pal isn't here to defend you. Don't you see, Flare? No one cares. " All of a sudden, Flare felt a burden lifted from his shoulders as Fireice's strong scent overpowered him. He glanced around really quickly, dazed, to see his sister standing beside him with another she-cat and a golden tom at her side. StarClan? he questioned, his narrow eyes wide in disbelief. Fireice shook her head sadly while the tom smiled, an almost crazed smile that made a supressed shiver run down Flare's spine. We are far from being in StarClan, good brother, the deceased fae hissed, a layer of scorn in her strong voice. Than what are you?The golden tom padded up to stand on Flare's other side, his dulled fur glittering with frost. We are your guardians. Living, yet dead, to protect you. Flare kept his fierce gaze on Sleetpaw, his fur bristling slightly. He wasn't going to alert his enemy to the presence of the dead cats. What would everyone think of him then? There would be no doubt that they would exile him. Fighting amongst the Clan--a place you don't even belong in--and spreading complete madness wasn't part of protocol. Unwanted. Well, you're not doing a very good job protecting me.Fireice, the white fae with purple eyes at her side, and the old tom stood in a triangle around Flare, their forms glowing dimly so that the other cats could catch a quick glimpse of them. Fireice nodded before they touched noses with Flare, filling him with a fiery energy that made him want to run until the sun burnt out. Until his soul left his body. Use it well, the tom whispered in his ear before they disappeared with the wind, their whispers just tiny rustles among the leaves. Flare barely had enough time to gather his bearings before Sleetpaw lunged at him, his fangs like weapons made out of ivory. A current of agony flooded throughtout Flare has Sleetpaw's teeth dug into his well-muscled shoulder and his claws slipped under to skin to prod at the bone. Hissing, Flare whipped his head around to sink his fangs into the other tom's shoulder while letting his weight flip him over, hopefully crushing Sleetpaw. Maybe it would actually give him enough time to throw a few quick blows into to the face and underbelly. Use it well. Don't do this, Flare. Is it really worth it, son of Shadowfire? " I hate you, " he snarled in Sleetpaw's ear as his claws lashed through the air.
