Earthpaw's eyes were dull as the smooth rocks beneith his feet. The tabby tom just sat at the edge of the huge gorge. Its dark and foggy deptpths may scare one cat silly and the cat would be running away. No, not Earthpaw. He wanted to die. The tom was hoping for some cat to come push him, for his paws to slip beneith him and he would slide into the never-ending fall of death into the gorge.

Earthpaw stood up and stood on the edge of the cascading and jagged edge of the eerie gorge. His whiskers twitched and the young cat closed his eyes. He was about to take the step that defined life and death but something erupted out of the bushes behind him. Earthpaw whipped around, eyes blasing. Who would dare try to stop him from killing himself?

Athame's [Aka Firepaw] dark red pelt shoen dully as he walked into the clearing, his paws making a soft noise as the crushed the multicolored leaves that now coverd the ground. Athame knew he shouldn't be near Riverclan, but he had to keep his promise and luckliy he came just in time.

Athame's dull amber eyes stared deeply at his brother's silver eyes. Though you couldn't see it, Athame was very happy to see his brother. "Earthpaw, don't" he said simply as he walked to his brothers side and wraping his tail around his brother, "Mother told me to take care you ,Waterpaw, and Icepaw and I am not going to break my promise" he said. Athame didn't want to admit it, but His brother was his best friend and always be his best friend.

Earthpaw glared at his brother. Right now he was the LAST cat Earthpaw wanted to see. As Athame wrapped his tail around Earthpaw the tabby tom glared at his brother. "Don't TOUCH me." He growled and diverted his eyes away from the other cat. A few mulit-colored leaves floated by. Earthpaw's whiskers twitched and he spoke once more.

"I thought that you hated me. It was all my fault that mom died and that featherpaw hates you and right now you can't understand what i am going through. YOU have never loved anyone and then have them break your heart for somebody who doesn't love them back." Earthpaw spoke with so much sadness it could make a leader cry. his heart was gone and Featherpaw hated him. She loved Athame.

Firepaw[got tired of Athame anyways ^^ Lol] eyes shone no emotion, though he pittied his brother and loved him all at once. "My dear brother, I love many cats. I love you, Waterpaw, Icepaw. You must understand that I am not the most sensitive cat in the world. Mother killed herself because of her life- I remember everynight she would tell us all how much she loved us. I used to envy you guys so much- i missed just me and Blackthorn. I remember how Blackthorn told me never to envy, she said one day she would be gone and I would take her place in caring for you. I never belived her. Untill now"


Firepaw turned his eyes towerds the sky, "It is true I understand nothing of what you are going threw, nor do you understand how much stress has been put on my sholders. Yet I do understand one thing- you are my brother, no mater how much I say I hate you- I will never truley hate you" Firepaw was surprise how sensitive he was acting.

Earthpaw stared at his brother. he was pouring pity all over him!!! How young and how rediculous. Firepaw was just some dumb and careless cat. Only trying to suck up to him, the other kits, his dead mother. This was so stupid, it was just wrong. Why would Firepaw care about him? he knew this was all lies and a buch of kissing up crap.

Earthpaw's tabby pelt fuzzed up to twice it's normal size and his silver eyes burned cold fury. "Why don't you shut your face and cut the crap Firepaw? You are just some no-good loner kiss-up kitty. All you care about is being just like mom. Well you know what, your not! Your nothing like her and you never will be. She never said she hated us ever and you have so many times it is un-countable!" Earthpaw was getting more and morre angry and depressed with every word. Why was life so hard?

Firepaw said nothing he just stood by his brother's side. He didn't care what his brother though, all he knew was if his brother jumped he was coming right in after him. Firepaw didn't know if he was making his brother mader- or he knew that he was making his brother mad. BUt he couldn't leave him in the condition he was in.

"Your right... I am not like Blackthorn- I have always tried hard to take her place in our family. I felt responsible for you all since I was first born... Earthpaw- please forgive me" Firepaw was becoming despret. He needed his brother back, he never treated his brother well. He would always be deputy and Firepaw leader. His brother was always by his side and only now, without his brother by his side, did he relise how lonley life could really be.

Earthpaw's eyes looked away from Firepaw. Then the silver orbs flicked back to Firepaw. Earthpaw narrowed his eyes to small glowing slits. "you have no idea how hard it would be to forgive you. I am broken into too many peices to forgive anybody Firepaw. How could you ask me to forgive you? Sure I am alive on the outside but I am truely and completely dead on the inside."Earthpaw looked towards the gorge again. The young tabby tom brushed past his brother and looked over the edge at the swirling wather below. He wondered if this was the spot where the brilliant and brave Thunderclan leader Bluestar leaped away to save her clan from a pack of raging dogs. Maybe Earthpaw would be the ever-famed Riverclan leader. Probley not, he was just a nobody cat. He was going to be nobody soon anyways. Simply forgotten, just like yesterday's prey.

Earthpaw looked back at his brother, the gorge, his paws, the sky with a few stars twinkling about. Stars. Tha's where Earthpaw belonged. In the stars the beautiful and glittering stars. No. He couldn't think that. He had to watch out for Firepaw. His brother would be heart-broken if Earthpaw was dead. Firepaw would think he had betrayed their mother. Earthpaw looked back up at the stars and took a step closer to look at a small light shooting acroos the sky. "How pret-"Earthpaw was cut short as he felt a rush of wind and his belley dropped. The tabby toms heart was in his mouth. the stone had broke beneith his feet!

Firepaw felt as if time had slowed as the stone under Earthpaw begain to crumble, FIrepaw eyes widen with shock and was parilized with fear. "Earthpaw!!" He caterwaled as he over caem his fear and grabbed his yonger brother by the scruff. The weight of his brother almost made Firepaw drop him, but he held on tighly.Firepaw winced at how heavy Earthpaw was, but slowly begain to pull backwerds. Trying to get Earthpaw away from the gorge. Yet it seemed like every timehe took a step back he slid two steps forwerd.

is this how it will all end, no- It can't!! I won't let Starclan take our lives yet!!

Firepaw duf his claws into the ground and pulled as hard as he could.

Earthpaw felt his brother grab his scruff and he knew that he wasn't going to die. Then the reality set it horridly. Firepaw was much skinneir and lighter from not being fed to content from the clan. He had been on the loner terras. Oh no. Earthpaw could feel Firepaws footing slide. It seemed that even if Firepaw tried as hard as he possibly could they were going to fall. Then what happened next made Earthpaws heart stop beating but it soon started up again as his fear seeped in. Firepaw's grip was sliding and Earthpaw was sliding away. The tabby tom wasn't ready to die. He needed his brother and his brother needed him. this couldn't happen. Suddenly Earthpaw felt his neck fur go loose and the wind blew around like jets. Earthpaws ears folded back and his tabby body curled into a tight ball. His claws dug into his own skin. The young cat was scared to death. Earthpaw peeked open a sliver slit of eye and saw the water getting ever closer. He readyed to hit the water and smacked into the liquid with a bone crunching smack.

"Earthpaw!! Earthpaw No!!! Please Starclan no!!!"

Firepaw took a step back and yowled in pain, he wasn't strong enought to even save his own brother. It was all his fault everything was his fault. Blackthorn's death, Bloodclaw's death, and now his brother's death. Tears filled Firepaw's eyes then he rased down the side of the gorge, trying to find the shallowest part. Once he found the shallowest part he jumped in.

The cold water mad Firepaw gasp for air, the water stung his eyes and his lungs filled with water. HE coughed some up then started to paddle towerds where his brother had fallen, Firepaw paddled over to Earthpaw and grabbed his scruff. Then triedto paddle towerds land, yet the weight of Earthpaw plus the weight of the water keep pulling his down. Yet he wouldn't give up- no he couldn't!!

Earthpaw felt his eyes stig and his lungs screamed for air. His paws seemed to be useless and he flug his head around through the water. Then Earthpaw seemed to lose the feeling of numbness and he regained control of his paws. The young cat paddled up towards the surface of water. His head broke the surface and he gasped in air. At that moment Firepaw had grabbed his scruff. Earthpaw tried to forgive his brother and he tryed to tell him he loved him but all Earthpaw could utter were bubbly blurs. His fur was pasted against his body and he was shivering. As Firepaw dragged him down the raging river he could tell Firepaw was having trouble. Then as they got towards a shallow part Earthpaw's foot hit a small rock and he let out a yowl. The cat's back left foot split with pain and it kept on throbbing like all of starclan. Then it only got worse. Earthpaw now tried to open his eyes. He flicked them open and it stung worse then his foot. As his sliver blood-shot eys opened his only sight was black. Pure as dark night black. Earthpaw panikced and flipped around and then whispered doubting Firepaw could hear it. "I-I cabt sbee."Earthpaw whispered in a raspy and bubbly voice to his brother.

Angelfur had seen it happen. Had seen Earthpaw fall over, or had he jumped? Either way she didn't care. Racing to the edge of the Gorge she looked over the edge. Relief shot through her as his head broke the surface, along with Firepaw grabbing his scruff. But Angelfur knew the smaller cat couldnm't carry Earthapws weight. But yet there was nothing she could do from where she was. Keeping the Apprentices within her sight, she began to run along the gorges edge. "Earthpaw!" she cried down to him.

Firepaw was once again pulled underwater, his eyes shot open and the cold water stung them and for a moment he lost his grip on Earthpaw. Luckly he regained his strenth and grabbed his younger brother's scruff and pulled them bother to the top. By now Firepaw was completly exosted. Firepaw usually was bigger and stronger then his brother, but the harsh life as a loner had made him rediculously thin.Firepaw felt panic take over him, he had to get somewhere soon or they would both die. Then suddenly a voice villed his ears

"Earthpaw! "

It was Angelfur, Firepaw had lost all since of directions so he followed the voice untill he got close to land. Suddenly a sudden change of the current pulled both Firepaw and Earthpaw down again. This time FIrepaw had no strenth to pull himself up, he couldn't feal the sting anymore only the cold water rushing around him, Firepaw was abotu to close his eyes when his amber eyes fell across his brother. Suddenly strenth poored back into him and he rammed himself into Earthpaw hoping that Earthpaw would get close enought to land that Angelfur would be able to grab him. WIth the last of his strenth Firepaw was able to grab onto a log that stuck out into the river.

Earthpaw felt his brother ram into him. This caused a series of events. First of all Earthpaw thudded into a log then hi gripped onto it with all his strenght. As firepaw clambered onto the log he knocked into Earthpaws foot causeing him to yowl with pain. Eathpaw was now just hoping a medicine cat would help them. He wanted Firepaw and he wanted to live. If Firepaw died trying to save him Earthpaw would really be dead inside. There would be no point to life.

Angelfur watched as Firepaw tried to get Earhtpaw closer to the edge so she could grab him. Running ahead, she positioned herself so she could make a grab for them both when they passed.

Once Firepaw got his sences back he relised that he had hurt Earthpaw, he also noticed Angelfur had positioned herself perfectly. Earthpaw would flow right over to her. Firepaw let out a gasp as cold water spashed onto his face. "Earthpaw, let go- Trust me you will be safe you just need to let go" He yowled over to his brother as he got a better grip onto the log.

Earthpaw felt as if he was goping to fall in again but he suddenly felt his brother's presence underneith him and was pushed onto shore. The tabby tom looked frail and dying lying there on the beach. His pelt was soaked and his back left leg was contorted into a twisted and distorted shape. Earthpaw swung his broad tabby head around with wide open silver eyes. they were bloodshot and seemed to be searching for something....anything. Earthpaw then curled into a small ball and got sick. His pelt was matted into a soggy, muddy, watery blend.

"Firepaw! Firepaw!" Earthpaw called out to his brother weakly but there was that sign of emotion still in his voice. The emotion that said "i need you, please find me!" An almost desperate sound. "Firepaw! I can't see! It is all black!" Eathpaw called out to his brother, the little cat's voice even more scared and desperate. He NEEDED his brother NOW.

Firepaw quickly scrambled onto shore. His pelt seemed to weigh all of starclan. His eyes stung and the cold winds bit at his dark red pelt. Making him even colder. Firepaw cough up a few drops of water before limping over to his brother. Fear over welmed him, what if his brother ended up blind. Never to see the light of day again- no that couldn't happen to him.

"Don't worry Earthpaw- I am here" his voice was horsed and his throat burned. Slowly Firepaw begain to dry his brother off. Firepaw hardly noticed how much pain he was in, all he cared about was making sure his brother was fine. "You will be ok" he whisperd before sitting by hir brother, pressing his pelt agents his to warm him up. "We will be fine"

Angelfur ran up to where the two brothers lay. "Earthpaw?" she called out, her voice filled with uncertainy.
