general rules
ooc fighting. please do not fight out of character. level debates are perfectly fine, provided that they are not over offensive topics (for example, anti-semitism). also keep in mind that an in-character fight does not mean that the other writer dislikes you as a person.
roleplaying before being accepted. please do not post in character-designated boards until you have been accepted. for example, don't write with your thunderclan apprentice if she has not been accepted into the clan yet -- just wait, and the application will be checked soon! out of character boards are perfectly fine.
advertising. there are boards for advertising and affiliating, so please keep all advertisements there unless a member specifically asks. in that case, pm the link -- don't post it in the cbox or anywhere otherwise public.
image sizes. signatures may be no larger than 500x400, and avatars may be no larger than 100x100. if this is violated, the image will be turned into a link.
the golden rule. 'treat others the way you want to be treated.' respect everyone, regardless of who they are, what they've done wrong, etc. this applies to out of character situations more than in character; obviously, felines will have rivalries and some will dislike each other, and that is fine.
spamming. don't do it. please avoid posting multiple times in a row unless it's for something like character logs or something that looks better separated what with formatting and everything (such as we are doing with the rules). otherwise, use the edit button.
chatspeak. please avoid chatspeak/netspeak/whatever you want to call it. obviously, usual abbreviations (lol, brb, etc) are acceptable, but don't run around replacing words with letters and numbers -- we wnt want 2 talk 2 u if u talk lyk dis.
multiple threads. try to keep your characters in no more than two casual threads at once. if there is something like a meeting or gathering, those are formal, and are not included in the limit.
accounts and characters. please limit yourself to one account. unless you have proven that you can be extremely active with all of your characters, please limit yourself to no more than eight. kittens and elders are not included until the kit is of apprentice age. deceased cats do not count, and it is not expected to keep them active -- however, if you would like to, it is fine to play them.
activity. if you're going to be inactive for more than a week, please let us know.

roleplaying rules.
literacy expectations. into the wild is a literate site. please do your best to avoid too many spelling and grammatical errors. obviously, nobody is perfect, but try to follow basic rules.
posts. please ensure that posts are at least one hundred words, excluding formatting.
activity. unless you have a specific reason not to, post at least once a week. if you have a high position, it is recommended that you exceed that.
profanity. the site has automatic censoring for some profanity, but that does not mean use it excessively. an occasional curse word here or there is acceptable, but the warriors do have their own terminology, so please stick to those.
powerplaying and godmodding. both of these are prohibited. powerplaying is essentially making someone else's character do something. for example, if i'm in a thread with brownie, and i say that her cat meows when she disagrees, that's powerplaying. don't assume that a character was hit by a blow in battle, or does anything not specifically said somewhere in the other person's post. exceptions to this are limited to situations similar to that of saying that your character watched another one's fur blow in the wind, but only if it has been established that it is already windy. as for godmodding, no cat is perfect. some scenarios could be between that of a six moon old apprentice and a senior warrior in battle. clearly, the warrior will be much more experienced, and less prone to being harmed, therefore the warrior can dodge more strikes. the apprentice, on the other hand, will not be able to do the same. play accordingly with your characters, but do not assume that just because your character is a senior warrior against a young apprentice, it won't be harmed. maximum dodge-to-hit ratio is four to one, meaning that on the fifth attack, your character must be hit. this only applies to very experienced warriors against newer ones. an apprentice cannot dodge four attacks from a leader, no matter how skilled he or she is.
weather. don't vary off of the site's weather. if it's summer, it isn't going to snow. obviously you don't have to say it's the exact same all the time; it might start raining, or storming, or something like that, but only if it's realistic for the season.
high positions. no more than two high positions, and they must be of different types. you can have either a leader or a deputy, and a medicine cat or a medicine cat apprentice. you can't have both leader and deputy, nor medicine cat and its apprentice. they must also be in different clans. exceptions to this are rare, and generally only apply if you have, say, a leader with one life left who is going to be retiring/dying soon and you want to become deputy in another clan. in that case, you can have the leader (who must pass relatively soon), deputy (in another clan), and a medicine cat/apprentice. beyond something similar to those, avoid more than two high positions.
animals. only cats are allowed to be played, unless there are auditions for a sitewide plot. if you're on patrol and come across a fox, you can tell what the fox does in the thread, but you cannot take its point of view and act as if you are playing it.
perfection... does not exist, so don't make any perfect characters (commonly referred to as mary-sues or gary-stus). every character has flaws.
offspring. if you want your cat to have kittens, you must have a staff member's approval. if you want to have a young cat outside of the clans, it must be old enough to care for itself.
training. apprentices will be assigned mentors and should participate in at least four training threads and two patrols; the training threads must have at least one fighting and one hunting, though the other two can be either. the patrols can be anything. preferably, the apprentices should also go to mothermouth once during their training; it is traditional. after that, there will be an assessment, and the mentor and leader will decide if the apprentice is ready to become a warrior.
posting. please always roleplay in third person, past tense. do not post entirely ooc threads in an ic thread, unless clarification of something is necessary, or stating that it is closed.

relationships
mating. do not play it out, period. not over pms, not in a thread, nothing.
pregnancies. all pregnancies must be cleared by a staff member. pm one of us desired number, stats, etc, and we will revise it. please also let us know how many the parents would like to keep, as they have first choice.
birth. your character has to give birth between four and eight weeks of getting pregnant. you can roleplay it out, but do not be overly graphic.
force-breeding. not happening without being cleared through an admin and the other cat involved. very rare.
kits. kits will stay with their mother until they reach six moons.
forbidden relationships.. acceptable, but don't have every single cat ever be in a forbidden romance. based on the plot, tension between clans, etc, there might not even be any accepted forbidden relationships. clear it through an admin first, because we need to restrict them. friendships are perfectly fine.
