Lightkit lay in the nursery, bored. Every one else was outside, and Snowpelt had gone off somewhere- to see Darkstorm, no doubt. He had told her only last Sunhigh. Now what she was supposed to do, she didn't know. She sighed. Could this day get any worse?

Northkit walked into the nursery, feeling truly downcast. She had ran away again, every time she almost had a friend she ran away...... Why? "Not your day etheir, huh?" She asked the kit who was laying closeby. "I don't think I've seen you before. I'm Northkit, and you are?" She said perking up abit.

" Lightkit." The orange tabby answered, looking Northkit over. Maybe she'd finally have a friend in this kit. " Nope. There's no one to talk to, Snowpelt and Splashheart are both out somewhere, and I'm bored to death!" She stood and stretched. " It's nice to meet you, Northkit." She mewed, trying to start a conversation."
(( You got me during Yours, Mine, and Ours. We rented it. Too bad we didn't buy it...I would've liked to watch it tomorrow while we're driving. That is such a good movie!))

" Sure!" Lightkit purred. She sensed Northkit's bunched up muscles, ready to run. She laughed quietly. " I have the same problem." She mewed, just as quiet.

Lightkit smiled. She had the same hopes as Northkit. " Well...." She looked outside to where the other kits were playing, then shook her head at herself. Not yet. " How 'bout we just talk? I don't feel like playing at the moment."

"Of course! I'll add that to the list of ors, or StarClan!" As Northkit finished speaking she couldn't help wondering. What kind of question was that, anyway? All cats believe in StarClan, don't they?

" I understand your concern." Lightkit said, her voice the softest it could go. " But it's a question I always ask. You see, I talk to StarClan." Now was the time Northkit would go away. Kits were scared of her talking to their ancestors, and it was normal. Well, at least, it was normal for them to run away. But she had a feeling that Northkit wasn't like that.

She talks to StarClan? Huh, I'm getting lamer by the minute. It wasn't like that back home though, not when I was with my brother... Thought Northkit sadly. I never ran away then, so why do I do it now? "You whisper like that's a bad thing," she said calmingly "It's something to be proud of, although I can kindof understand why you would keep that a secret...." Did I just say that? I'm starting to sound like my old self again, I never thought that would happen..... It shouldn't happen anyway, it mustn't. Thought Northkit as she reflected on her old promise. It all seemed so long ago now, so very long ago.....

" That's because it is!" Lightkit insisted. " You see, cats get scared when I tell them. They think I'm too serious for a kit, that I shouldn't be able to talk with StarClan! That's why I don't have many friends." She looked at the ceiling of the nursery. She made a prmoise, They said. A promise that was made to be broken. " They tell me of a promise you made a long time ago." Lightkit gazed at Northkit through hunter green orbs, ones that knew what the other kit was feeling. " Can you tell me? I told me my secret; please tell me yours."

Too many thousands of stars in SilverPelt, should've known one of them would snitch on me! Oh, brother where are you now? How do we fare in the war? So many unanswered questions, wish I could talk to StarClan, like a medicine cat. "I made that promise to Lu-, uh, my brother a long time ago......To take our secret to the grave. Huh, now I sound too serious." I must stop this now! Soon I'll end up telling her everything!

Lightkit chuckled. " We're in the same boat, Northkit. Maybe you'll find your brother one day." She added in a whisper. Northkit was fun; the orange kit didn't want to lose such a wonderful friend. "Hmmmm...." Northkit looked up at the kit beside her, did she finaly have a friend? She wondered. The small silver tabby's hopes where high, but then again, she had had high hopes before..... Northkit only hoped this time would be different.

Northkit lept lightly out of the way and landed on Lightkit as she passed. Jumping off she cried, "Can't catch me!" as she ran to the other side of the nursery, and crouched down, ready to leap out of the way again.

" You sure 'bout that?" Lightkit answered, lauhging as she pounced at Northkit to pin her down, misjudging the distance across the nursery and falling a few pawsteps short. SHe gets up again quickly and crouches, waiting for Northkit to attack.

Northkit had learned this trick a long time ago, but then it had been a real fight.... The memory didn't warent thinking about just now... She bluffed a pounce, then used the falling motion to get around Lightkit and pinned her from behind.

THe tabby kit turns over, suyrprisingly laughing. " You're on heck of a fighter, Northkit." She mewed through her laughter. " You'll make a wonderful warrior! But for now-" She kicks out with her back legs to get the silver kit off her.

Turning in the air, the small tabby sprinted forward, nocking Lightkit over. "I've had a bit more practice than could be desired." mewed Northkit as she backed away, then crouched ready to spring again.

Now Northkit was getting into her stride, the last time she had had a play fight was when she still lived in the lands of forever snow.... But you could have hardly called it a play fight. The silver tabby jumped as high as she could over Lightkit, and sprinted back across the nursery. All the while feeling the shy kit she had become slipping away, and oddly finding that she didn't care if this kit new what she once was.

Lightkit smiled. " C'mon; let's go outside!" She bolted out into the sunshine, wondering what was inside Northkit's heart. It was good, she could tell from her actions, but something lurked there...a secret wanting to stay dark, perhaps, or some uncontrolable force was present. Lightkit didn't care as long as she had a friend now, that she needed to make this one a keeper.

Northkit raced after her friend into the sunshine, this was the the happiest she had been in a long time. Blinking in the sun she crept up to Lightkit, when she was only a mouse length from the other kit she sprung at her playfully.

Lightkit was pushed to the ground with Northkit's attack, and surprisingly, she laughed. A long, full, hearty laugh. I havn't laughed like that in a long time, she thought as she kicked out to get Northkit off her.
